Editorial Reviews:

  • There’s been a lot of talk of 'new directions' and 'experimentation' around this ninth studio from Irish boy band Westlife. Certainly there seems to have been a big push in the production department, with input from a range of prestigious songwriters and studio-smiths such as Ben Moody and David Hodges (who wrote the lead single What About Now), Ryan Tedder and AJ McLean (aka The Backstreet Boys), Steve Robson (James Morrison, Take That) and Steve Booker (Duffy). True enough, songs like the Tedder/McLean-penned ballad “Shadows” carry a slightly ‘sparkier’ edge than usual; and tracks like “The Difference” and even “What About Now” have an extra frisson. But long-time fans needn't fret: most of the album--including tracks like “Talk Me Down,” “As Love is My Witness” and closer “I’ll See You Again” - are quintessential Westlife in their play-it-safe approach to melody, harmony and lyricism. 'Experimentation', it transpires, is a vastly relative term.--Danny McKenna

  • Summary: Their best to date.
  • Comment: Just when I thought their last CD could not be topped they did it again. The songs are heartfelt and emotional.
There is a sense of a new maturity in both the lyrics and the arrangements. It's very creative with some new sounds but still keeping with the great vocals.
The song "Take Me Down" is incredible and it just tears my heart out. Also very moving are "When There are no More Heroes" and "I'll See You Again".
They touch me deeply in a way that I can't express in words. I've just lost someone close to me so the words are exactly the way I feel.
I'm recommending it to all my friends and it's so refreshing to hear really good quality music that will last forever!!

All I had to do was rip off the very secure packaging, put my DVD on the player, sit back and read the booklet inside the disc case, relax and enjoy. Wonderful. Why get the car out, drive to the town centre, pay for car parking and fight the shopping crowds when Amazing Amazon can deliver it to my door? Thank you

  • Comment: I was looking forward to this album big time I have had it since the day it came out and it has never been out of my CD player. I'll See you Again is well worth the wait as the last song on the album but you really cant wait to get the Cd started again so repeat it is.
This album has everything you could want as a music lover, great producers, great lead vocals and harmonies and lets face it just great music all over.
Great work by the lads and after listening to this album I can't wait for the tour and will forgive the guys for taking that year break, their life experiences within that year must really have made them want more for Westlife and this year and with this album they really do deserve it.
If you dont have this album yet...........GO AND GET IT..........you really are missing out!

  • Summary: The best Westlife cd ever
  • Comment: The CD is very different against other Westlife's albums. They worked with very good producers.Makes me a little confused why Nicky and Kian haven't got a solo, but that's only bad thing. But Mark and Shane got the best from themselves.Especially Shadows, Sound of broken heart and Reach out are strong songs.Maybe it remind pop/rock more then only pop.A lot of real instruments (piano, strings). Some songs (Leaving, Talk me down) sounds almoast acustic.
Melodies are in midd tempo and very slowly sometimes, how I expected from Westlife.Lyrics are interesting too. It's album which you can listen to relax or even to work.I feel very pleasantly when I listen to it.And I can recommend this album to everyone who expect good pop, pop/rock melodies.

  • Summary: WESTLIFE ON TOP OF THEIR GAME!!
  • Comment: I love this band and their music. I own most of their albums & singles and I rate this latest (2009) album their very best yet. Let me state what I look for in a great song: A well-constructed, hummable MELODY which will linger in my head because of the beauty of the melody. This album has a high % of songs that fit this requirement.

I care less about the lyrics of songs - as long as it's NOT about aggression & violence. I also very rarely award any song a 10/10 score, as you will see from my favorite Westlife songs that follow. The last time when I awarded a song 10/10, was in 2003 for Faith Hill's "Cry".

The following are my favorite Westlife songs from their past albums, so readers have a reference point as to which Westlife songs I regard as really great.
From "A World Of Our Own" (2001): To Be Loved (9.5); Drive (9.5)
From "Face To Face" (2005): You Raise Me Up (9.5); When You Tell Me.... (with Diana Ross) (9.0)
From "The Love Album" (2006): Love Can Build A Bridge (9.5++); The Rose (9.0)
    From "Back Home" (2007): Us Against The World (9.5); Catch My Breath (9.5); When I'm With You (9.0);
From "Where We Are" (2009): How To Break A Heart (9.5++); Leaving (9.0); Reach Out (9.0) No More Heroes (8.5); I'll See You Again (8.5); Talk Me Down (8.5)
And the other 7 songs on this album are all very listenable - no exceptions; here is not a single track which I want to mute out / skip. My ratings for the rest of this album are: What About Now (8.0); Where We Are (8.0); Shadows (7.5); The Difference (7.0); As Love Is My Witness (7.0); Sound Of A Broken Heart (6.5); Another World (6.0)

Great job Westlife!! May you record & perform much more of this excellent music for several decades! Buy this album right away if you like music with great melodies, voices, harmonies, orchestration & other backup sound.
