A Nice Album... innit?
Comment:
I bought this after watching Nige on the last night of the proms. His virtuoso talent is unrestrained on this album, and is very impressive. The instrumental tracks have strong melodies which are easy on the ear, and quite memorable. I felt the vocal performances were not up to the mark (especially Nigels'), perhaps the money he saved on the DIY album cover would have been better spent on a stronger vocalist to match Nigel's own talent.

A VERY NIGE ALBUM A MAN 4 ALL SEASONS
Comment:
This is definitely not a classical album, for Kennedy has thrown off the shackles of very conservative genre of music and produced an album that he can be very proud of,he even played this at that bastion of the establishment "The Proms", all the tracks are self penned, and are played with gusto and panache, the quintet are superbly talented kennedy drawing from the new young lions of Polish jazz,as Poland is now his adoptive home, this album will grow in stature and do Kennedy no harm at all.

A VERY NICE ALBUM INDEED
Comment:
I first heard Nice Bottle of Beaujolais, Innit? & Hills of Saturn on the BBC2 Proms, and realy loved what I heard so I bought the album and havent stopped listening to it. If your after something a bit different then you can't go wrong with this.

Comment:
I bought this cd 3 days ago, have played it a dozen or so times and I absolutely love it. If your only exposure to Nigel Kennedy is through his purely classical repertoire you may need to approach this album with caution as it it is definitely not a classical album. However if you are a fan of his album with Kroke, his 'Blue Note' jazz album and the better tracks on 'Kafka' you will love this. All the tracks here are written by Kennedy himself. Furthermore all tracks are played on electric violin resulting in a very different sound from the sonorous tones usually associated with Kennedy. Kennedy even sings (albeit not very well) on a couple of tracks. His limited vocal abilities however, rather than irritating tend to add a comic effect conducive to the nature of the material. This especially applies to the bluesy 10 minute track 'Boo Boooz Blooooze'. There are some nice melodic classical touches on this album as well as jazz, Latin American, Eastern European and straight ahead rock influences. Aided and abetted by a wonderful line up of Eastern European musicians on tenor sax, piano, hammond organ, bass and drums this is a great album.
As noted this album is not for everyone, but if you like Kennedy's previous excursions outside of classical music you are sure to love this one. I personally prefer this album to 'Kafka' and the 'Hendrix' album. Like his 'Blue Note' and 'Kroke' albums this is a very successful and rewarding departure from the classical style at which he excels and which has won him so many fans. Excellent.
