Editorial Reviews: Yet another collection of club classics from the Ministry of Sound. The Annual Spring 2001 is a flawless mix of tracks to kick-start your weekend. Disc Two presents relentless, pounding mixes of Norman Bass ("How U Like Bass"), Public Domain ("Operation Blade") and the dancefloor favourite "That Zipper Track" by DJ Dan with Needle Damage. There are as ever the usual anthems like Delerium's "Silence" or the corking "Spaced Invader" (Hatiros) representing the mainstream side of things nicely alongside Rui de Silva's "Touch Me". Chopping it up with Funky beats and vocals, Disc One delivers tunes of a feelgood flavour with M&S's "Salsoul Nugget" and the huge "Camels" by Santos which take you back to the heady summer of Ibiza 2000. As with all previous Ministry of Sound releases, the selections are great, the presentation is flawless and the mixing seamless, definitely a spring essential. -- Gina Lundy

Summary: Can't go wrong with Ministry
Comment: I know I know! why have they put Silence on the Spring Annual? (considering it came out in Autumn 2000...) well, personally, I think it is a timeless classic and fits in anywhere... but other than that minor hiccup, the Ministry's selection of (albeit rather commercial) tunes is amazing, ranging from the soft and ambient 'American Dream' to the hillariously hard 'Hey DJ' and everything inbetween is great too

Obviously this is quite an old compilation now, but I still listen to it all the time (CD2 more than CD1) because it certainly has quite a shelf life. If it ever gets reduced to under a tenner BUY IT! but if you're willing to spend more than that, I'd buy a more recent compilation such as the Ibiza Euphoria vol.3

Oh yeah, the one obvious downside of this album is the edited versions of How U Like Bass and Wackass MF- I wish we could get to hear the tracks as they were designed to be heard! (moan moan moan)

Summary: A drop below their typical quality mixes
Comment: This album overall is nothing to write home about. It is unoriginal, the mixes are predictable and lack proper vibes. Yes, the second CD is far better, because of the type of music but not the mixing. The previous 3 annuals were better than this..save your money and just keep listening to the radio.

Summary: Worth the price for Disc 2 alone
Comment: Listening to disc one I thought I'd been had - the normal commercial dance tunes with too much vocal, but disc two is a reveleation for such an album, a suprisingly good lot of catchy hard house tunes that are much better than MOS's recent Hard Energy release. Don't be put off by seeing Jakatta as the first track when you read the cover. The mixing could be a little better though.

Summary: Save your money 'til the summer takes shape...
Comment: Nothing original here. A selection of uninspiring rehashed ideas and sounds...

The original stuff must still be on the starting blocks under starter's orders for the summer sprint to Ibiza!

Summary: A good start to the year
Comment: This is the first Ministry of Sound annual of the year. Cd 1 is a mix of house and trance while Cd2 serves up some suprisingly hard house and progressive trance. My only complaint is that the CDs aren't mixed by proper Djs. In fact, the mixing sounds like its been done on a computer. They should have got Judge Jules or Fergie to mix them. Other than that though, its a brilliant complation.
