Editorial Reviews: Ministry of Sound's Clubber's Guide to Ibiza 2001 is probably as close to the sounds of San An and Eivissa as you can get. Most of the top tunes creating havoc on the dance floors at the likes of Pacha, Privilege and Amnesia are here--from Members of Mayday's storming "10 in 01", to the hands-in-the-air fun of Raven Maize's "The Real Life" via the blessed-out beats of Roger Sanchez's "Another Chance", the floor-fillers just keep on coming. The only notable exceptions are Trisco's "Muzak" and the highly sought-after Chemical Brother's "Africa"--but hey, you can't have everything. This is as close to perfection as you could wish to get. --Helen Marquis

Summary: good house mix, cheese clog trance set
Comment: Ah, to heck with credibility, some times you just want a heaping plastic chunk of McTunes, and that’s precisely what British corporate club culture does best. The Ibiza Annual, Cream Ibiza, Club Mix Ibiza 2001, MTV Ibiza, Renaissance Ibiza, Best Ibiza Anthems Ever 2001, and (finally) Clubber’s Guide to Ibiza are all available for summer round-up of the peak dance season.

Truth be told, 90% of the tracks on all of these are from the same assembly line; the difference lies in slight customer preferences for speed and pop-factor amongst the housey-trancey lot. So what’s included? Lightweight disco fluff “Another Chance” by Roger Sanchez owes royalties to Daft Punk, Kings of Tomorrow “Finally” arrives in the original (best) mix, kicking off the top block of disc one: familiar dance cookie “Drifting” by Mojolators and smooth downtempo curves Raven Maize “The Real Life” and Full Intention “I’ll Be Waiting”. Lurking near the end are Smokin Jo’s rated “Yan U” and Brother Brown’s “Star Catching Girl” albeit in an lesser incarnation. Points off from an otherwise respectable hour for cheese clog “3-2-1 Fire” by Santos.

As for the “Night Life” mix. Hmm. The worst trance set I’ve heard in a long, long time. Tall Paul vs INXS’s “Precious Heart” is an embarrassment to the mere word, and inexplicably pitches up the vocal of Michael Hutchence. Cosmic Gate’s “Fire Wire” probably rates as the worst single of the year. Pure pap on plastic, keep it in the case or irrevocably waste precious minutes of your life.

So, a mixed bag as expected. One disc for groovin’ on the beach, one for flinging into the ocean. But if you’re curious about the latest trends in disposable dance culture, it does meet the requirements. 2.5 stars

Summary: One of the best MOS releases
Comment: This album is one of Ministry's best releases. Every now and then, a new cd comes out, and its simply amazing. If your into any kind of house, its on here. The first place I heard many of the years forthcoming tracks such as Another Chance, Static Revenger and Voodoo. The first disk is a little more laid back than the second, and as always, disk 1 is also the best. Brilliant house tunes from start to end. Definately in the 10 best MOS releases, and I should know, I've got over 100 of them!

Summary: Average to good cd for the start of the Ibiza season
Comment: Ministry of Sound have provided us with yet another installment of the Clubbers guide to Ibiza, this year MOS seem to have shed thier traditonal approach towards a new style - no names mixed CD, no little fold out map, no trademark picture of the deck on the cd and sleeve cover. The cd is split in Beach Life (Disc 1) which is the more chilled out house tracks, whereas Night Life (Disc 2) is more of the more trancery, progressive sounds. CGIbiza is a fairly mediocre CD, disc one is better than disc 2, and there still remains repetition of tracks from other MOS albums (Skydive), also gone is the nice booklet information and glossy photos and guide to the island - which i think is a shame. On the good side, the track selection is not very commericalised and there are some predictions for Ibiza 2001, the cd serves as a snapshot for Ibiza and will be a good sountrack to the summer!

Summary: The Definitive Sound of Summer!
Comment: Ministry of Sound are back with their fourth installment of the "Clubber's Guide to Ibiza". Split into two distinctly different music styles, Disc 1 "Beach Life" and Disc 2 "Night Life.

The first disc gives us wonderful Mediterranean sounding beats ideal for chilling out on a hot beach. Kicking off with what is likely to be one of the biggest tracks of the summer Roger Sanchez - "Another Chance". The second disc moves it up a gear giving us a taste of Ibiza sounding House and Trance sounds we will hear in the clubs this summer.

The CD, like the Ministry Annual "Spring 2001" has no name DJ mixing. It is competently mixed but does lack a little flair in the mixing as a result of Judge Jules absence on this one.

The music choice is, as ever, a great mix of current floor fillers such as Schiller - "Das Glockenspiel" and Cosmic Gate - "Fire Wire" and a load of upcoming tracks including Warrior "Voodoo", Santos and Hi-Gate.

If you liked the other Clubber's Guide to Ibiza Albums this will not disappoint.
