Editorial Reviews: Summer 2002 release, Now That's What I Call Music! Vol 52 is two discs' worth of hits from the UK singles chart. Featuring number ones from Ronan Keating, Liberty X and the Sugababes plus a host of good pop (Britney, Kylie et al); loud rock (Idlewild, Puddle of Mudd etc); smooth R&B and hip-hop (Nelly, Mary J, Aaliyah) and uplifting dance music (Intenso Project, Shakedown, Tim Deluxe).

Summary: The best 'NOW' summer edition in years!
Comment: Looking through the last 10 years, and being focused on the summer versions of the "NOW That's What I Call Music!" series, I realized that this the best!
With a perfect tracklisting on Disc One, and an almost excellent selection for the Disc Two, the volume 52 of the most successful compilation series of all time fits perfectly on my CD player.
We start Disc One with the excellent No1 by Ronan Keating "If Tomorrow Never Comes", which in my opinion, is the best ballad of the year. The CD moves to a totally different sound, with the perfect sound of "Just A Little" by Liberty X, which also made No1 and is a cover.
George Michael's "Freeek!" (UK No7) is a very sexy/dance track which would be better on NOW 51, but appears here as a good classic of the year. Returning to the chart-toppers, the Sugababes' "Freak Like Me" kicks off with this electric tune!
A returning artist, Kylie Minogue, makes her welcome-back with this excellent piece of dance. I think this deserved the top spot, but though Elvis' "A Little Less Conversation" came at No1 the same week, "Love At First Sight" managed to make and excellent No2 position.
Travelling through Disc One, and now we find Enrique Iglesias, who followed the successive No1 "Hero" with this top ten "Escape".
Next to Enrique is the mighty Sophie Ellis-Bextor, with the No3 hit "Get Over You"; and the S Club Juniors, which are fast following the footsteps of their 'older brothers'. They appear here with their debut No2 "One Step Closer".
After this pop hits, the Disc One is filled with excellent dance hits, including Scooter's No2 "The Logical Song", Flip & Fill's No3 "Shooting Star", Shakedown's No6 "At Night" and Mad'House No3 cover of Madonna "Like A Prayer".
Disc One finishes with S Club 7's early 2002 No2 hit "You".

Disc Two starts with mid-tempo hits "It's OK!", Atomic Kitten's No3 hit-single (No3), Britney Spears' No2 "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" from the movie Crossroads and Ashanti's R&B "Foolish". Mary J. Blige continues the R&B style with "No More Drama" followed by *N Sync's biggest hit (of their whole career) "Girlfriend" (Album Version) which made No2 in April.
Christina Milian appears with this excellent follow up of "AM To PM", the No3 "When You Look At Me". Then comes Nelly with "Hot In Herre", a good Ms. Dynamite hit, Samantha Mumba's little brother (Omero) with his own material and Aalyiah's "Rock The Boat" concluding the R&B stuff of Disc Two.
Then the CD moves to a more rock status, with The Reelists, 1 Giant Leap, Amy Studt's debut, Sheryl Crow's undersold, but excellent top twenty summer hit "Soak Up The Sun", and more excellent rock tracks.
Finishing the CD, are Moby with No11 "We Are All Made Of Stars" and Oasis' No2 "Stop Crying Your Heart Out".

This CD is a must buy for any summer music lover, is the best NOW in ages and it worth every penny.

Summary: "Now" you not only have to buy this but Hits 53 as well...
Comment: There are few things in life you can depend on but the "Now" set is always one - however it is a different ballgame in the days a.c. (After Cowell). The Now series has had its authority challenged in recent times by the rival "Hits" series (BMG's answer to EMI/Virgin's established compilation). So you don't get Will'n'Gareth here but you do get the Sugababes, and Kylie, and the mighty Sophie E-B and my own personal recommendations - Moony, Space Cowboy and Doves - but these days to be a chart completist you not only have to buy this but also "Hits" as well - however "Now" is still the benchmark against which all chart compilations must be measured, so therefore I give it 4 stars even if some of the tracks here also turn up on its "Hits" counterpart.

Summary: Quality rather than Pop Idols
Comment: Okay so it may not have the biggest tracks of the last third of the year, notable missing people, include the Pop Idols, Eminem, Elvis, H & Claire, Mis-Teeq and Shakira.

Skip Ronan, and every track is fine on Disc 1, which includes many dance hits, Scooter, Flip & Fill and Moony are fantastic tracks and finishing up with the inspired cover of Mad'House and the surely an impossibility, S Club 7's "You" manages to be even more cheesy than "Reach".

Disc 2, although doesn't contain many big charting artists, you only need to look at the quality. The sultry Aaliyah, laid-back Reelists and the exquisite "Just A Little Girl" by Amy Studt, which is surely the best song on the album. Some indie music rounds it off including the low-charting but superb Doves track "Pounding". Well worth a buy and if you get Hits 53 as well, you've got everything.

My review of Now 51 was the most read, so thanks you guys.

Summary: Nowty Mix!
Comment: Well, what can I say? I have the album playing in the background now (actually, the volume's turned up pretty high!) and I am extremely pleased with my purchase! Although I'm not a big fan of chart music compilation albums, but this CD just keeps dishing out track after track of good music. OK, so it's let down (in my opinion) by the likes of cheese-meisters Ronan, S-Club 7 and Spear's woeful ballad 'Not a girl, Not yet a Woman' but the rest is excellent. CD1 was my fave with Liberty-X and top dance tracks seeing me all the way through the second half of the disc. What's more, you don't get any of the annoying remixes or too-long intros that you get with many dance compilation albums. The second CD has some excellent RnB, throws in the brilliant Daft Punkesque track 'I would die for You' by Space Cowboy and finales on the amazing new song by Oasis 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' which I could listen to over and over again. On albums like this you often find you have to keep one finger on the remote to skip past the tracks you don't like, but this is rarely necessary here if you're a multi-genre music lover.

Summary: A very good mix of different songs
Comment: This 'Now' edition has certainly got the best selection of hits, my favourites include: Scooter, Nigel & Marvin and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
But the one song I absolutley hate is that annoying Paffendorf. The idea of saying "You be cool" every so often is a very stupid one. The beats and the sounds were good but that silly line spoilt it after all they weren't even singing.
Now 52 is worth every penny.
...More albums like this please!!!!
