Summary: If you've got a few of their tracks on Hed Kandi albums, don't bother
Comment: As I've enjoyed some of their tracks from various Hed Kandi albums, I had to try the debut album from Late Night Alumni. It's an interesting collection with quite a bit of variety. Here's a review of each track...

Seemingly Sleepy - Nice vocals and a cool melody, but it feels a bit disjointed - possibly even unfinished. The drums are the main reason for this. It just feels like it's missing something.

Rainy Days - The chords and brass are especially good here, although I'm not so keen on the vocals this time. They pick up for the chorus, but the verses seem to lose themselves a bit.

Empty Streets - A lounge/disco hybrid. Thanks to Hed Kandi, I know this one well - and I love it. Awesome vocals, great melody and an altogether solid production.

The Rest Of You - Reasonably chilled, and sticks to a similar formula to that of Empty Streets. Some nice guitar work here. Nice enough and very memorable, but not much to add to what's come before. This is now the 2nd track I know from Hed Kandi...

Sunrise Comes Too Soon - Similar in style to Rainy Days - slower and with more focus on the instruments than the dance beat. The melody is pretty average though, and the vocals are not that great.

Eros - This starts out as a pretty standard track, but then the echoey notes come in - they sound great! But then we get a really dull chorus. Uninspired; feels like they didn't know where to take this one.

Keep Up With Me - A bit more upbeat, but it takes almost 2 minutes to get started. By that point, I'm bored. The verses are dull and while the chorus is a bit better, the rest of the track just isn't special enough for it to make a difference.

Heaven - This is weird because it starts off sounding like it's a continuation of the previous track. It's in the same key and has a very similar sound. In fact if I don't see the track change, I usually think that this is a long refrain for Keep Up With Me. The vocals are not very good - it's all a bit boring really.

Beautiful - This is a difficult track to review. As a track in its own right, I think it lives up to its name. It really is beautiful. The instruments and vocals go together perfectly. However, it feels like the start of a new album - it's not well placed as the 9th track out of 12. And worse still, though I love this track, I'd already heard it on a Hed Kandi compilation. That's 3 tracks so far...

Meant To Be - ...make that 4! I've never been a huge fan of this track - it's OK, but it plods along so slowly and it feels as if they're really dragging it out. The vocal melody is really not that good. The quality of the singing isn't good either! Oh dear, time to move on...

All For Nothing - I'm sure I've heard this on a Hed Kandi CD too... so that's 5 tracks, almost half the album. It's a bit better than some of the last few tracks - the opening chords sound very promising - but once again, the vocals are really dull.

Nothing Left To Say - This quite nice, but it goes on a bit too long. Still, not a bad way to close the album.

So, to sum up. It's not bad, but it's not great either. Buy it if you want some semi-chilled feelgood dance music and if you don't know most of the tracks. If you already have a lot of the tracks on Hed Kandi albums as I did, then don't bother - the ones you already know are pretty much the only ones worth buying this for.

Summary: Awesome!!!
Comment: I have recently, via the work of Kaskade, become engrossed in this genre of music, and i must say that this group really are top of the pile.

Fave tracks include 'Empty Streets' which is my track of the year, the beautiful 'Beautiful', and 'Nothing Left To Say'.

It really is a strong piece of work, and there won't be many tracks that you'll be skipping.

Considering i use Amazon extensively in order to find other music of similar styles, i would also like to recommend the work of Kaskade - in particular Heartbeat and Maybe, Afterlife, and if you really like your chilled music then Bliss will be right up your alley.

Summary: WOW
Comment: Every now and then an artist appears on the scene with an album that has it all, and this, top of the pile for me. Gorgeous flowing beats, some awesome keyboard work topped off with the incredibly angelic lyrics from Becky Williams. I have listened to this album over & over to find that ever popular trash track. To date I cannot find it, all the tracks are excellent, certainly one that I will be blasting out during some late night/early morning beach parties. For those that like the Chill Out and Melodic Trance style of music this album is for you, better still no matter what your musical tastes this is one album to adorn your prized collection. Excellent, let's hope there is more from these guys in the future.

Comment: Classy sexy house, chilled but doesn't send ya to sleep with some tunes little more up-beat. Spot on! I first came accross these guys through some of the better Hedkandi compilations & any fan of the Hedkandi / Defected / Balearic type sound will love this.

Summary: Sublime And Relaxed.. But Sheer Brilliance!!
Comment: Hed Kandi have come up top trumps again by getting this act on their label.

Late Night Alumni's "Empty Streets" takes you through a whistle stop journey of chilled beats and haunting lyrics that would fit in at any of the chill out bars in Ibiza.

The album fuses chilled music worthy of any of the top bars with the haunting voice of Becky Jean Williams to produce what is an amazing album. each track has it's own special quality and no two tracks sound a like.

As a debut album you could not ask for more. I just hope that they continue to produce more quality albums like this.
