I don't get it!
Comment:
I wanted to like this compilation. The packaging and sleeve notes are excellent. However it is the music that matters and this where the problems start.
In essence you are buying someone elses mix album. If you come from a similar place and time then all well and good, otherwise you just might miss the point as I did. Even then why the Pink Panther and Hill Street Blues theme tunes? Haven't we heard them enough over the years!
On a positive note, some of the seminal house music tracks on disc 2 deserve to be re-visited. However, what is unforgivable is the poor compressed sound quality. MOS state that the songs were recorded from the vinyl originals together with the usual LP background noise to enhance the atmosphere. I would prefer a nice clean remastered copy, thanks.

Its Beautiful, simply Beautiful
Comment:
This compilation is an absolute must for anyone with a true love of Dance Music. No, I'm not talking about the Dance Fan whose collection starts and ends with the "Clubland" or Ministry Annuals. If you truly adore Dance music AND you want to know where it all began then take a listen to this. Alfredo is the guy who influenced Oakie and Danny Rampling. Its because of Alfredo that successive generations of British clubbers have grown up in a world filled with House Music. The Summer of 1987 can never be underestimated and this is a sample of the type of sets that Alfredo used to play at that time. Whatever about the background though, the music simply shines through. Art of Noise's "Moments in Love" gloriously towers over the 1st Disc and who would have thought that Tears for Fears would be seen as Club Music??? The Tracks go very well together although you could be forgiven for thinking you had the wrong CD when you play track 1 and find the "Pink Panther" theme coming through your speakers!!!!!! CD1 is definitely more latin and mellow whilst CD2 is more House oriented with a wonderful version of "Can You Feel it" sampling Martin Luther King. This is one CD that shows that the DJ ,if given licence to play what he feels in a set rather than sticking to Chart Hits, can truly create an experience to savour.

Comment:
This is quite simply the best "electronic" music album I have ever purchased. If you're a genuine lover of classic dance/electronic music then you'll love this album. Its a fantastically eclectic mix with influences from soul, jazz, funk, Chicago house, euro-pop and 80's brit-rock all thrown into the mix. For those of you looking for a dummed-down commercial "old skool" dance album - this isn't it. But you should buy it anyway because it's a far more complex, satisfying and enduring offering than any of the rehashes of overplayed "classics".
In a nutshell this album offers a glorious opportunity to relax and enjoy the roots of modern dance music at its best. Even my numetal-head friends enjoyed it!
If you can listen to this and not wish you'd been there to hear it when it was new there is something wrong with you!
I could say so much more but the quality speaks for itself. Enjoy...
