Comment:
Wow. Just wow. A powerful movie, subtle and moving, for once treating the subject of inner-city African-American life with dignity and respect. It is shys away from the typical taudry 'guns and hos' trivialisation of ghetto life. The rhymes are amazing, the acting superb. Just one of the best films I have seen in a while.

Summary:
Poetry is alive, well and living in Dodge City
Comment:
This film is an intense, cruel and powerful drama, made even more so by the impromptu performance poetry which gives this film it's title. The acting is top class and the plot is completely engaging, proving to anyone that has any doubts about the new style of big-screen art films, bringing small soundbites of society to anyone who cares to watch. The poetry makes the film itself completely memorable and unique, and adds depths to the film's subject matter of alternative cultures, what with the poet belonging, at the turn of the millenium, to perhaps one of the most superlative of sub-cultures. Williams' soaring and heart-stoppingly dramatic poetry slams leave your pulse racing, and teaches the masses that poetry needn't be pompous or archaic, belonging in the realm of dusty old tombs of uncomprehendable pretentiousness. Poetry is alive, makes the listener feel alive, and no-one has given that power and life and realism to poetry for a very long time.
