Comment: I bought this DVD on the strength of reviews on Amazon and the fact the it rated Top 10 in Shortlist
magazine for the best TV programmes of all time. There's nothing better than reading reviews and
finding out they're exactly right. I'm not about to go all in-depth about this programme, it's
realism, character building etc - just buy it. It is simply fantstic and the best programme I've
viewed in a long time.

Comment: I don't watch much TV, but I'd read some rave reviews of The Wire by some critics who are usually
hard to please, so I gave this a go. I'm glad I did, but there's nothing I like better in films or
books than good characterisation combining with an intricate plot to make a believable overall
impression. As other reviewers have said, you really can't miss an episode of this series and have
to watch - and listen to - the whole thing from start to finish. One small criticism I have,
however, is that even in straining your ears to catch the dialogue, some of it is really
incomprehensible. Apart from that, I found this hard to fault and I'm already looking forward to the
next four sets. It's inspired me to try The Sopranos once more as I failed to get through Series One
of that and, according to everyone, that's the pinnacle of US HBO drama. On the strength of this,
however, I found The Wire had the better material. (I'm also going to try the non-fiction book
Homicide: that inspired the series.)

Comment: i have very nearly finished watching series one, this is very good television. i am glad i read the
other reviews before i brought this box set.it does take a few episodes for the story to warm up, i
think iwas at episode five before i could see what all the hype was about.i have enjoyed the wire
and at some stage i will invest in series 2 but i still feel that the sopranos for me was a better
experiance

good television drama, well worth the price

get better the more you watch it. An essential buy for any fan.
