Editorial Reviews:
Alicia Silverstone won everyone over with her portrayal of a Beverly Hills teen, Cher, whose penchant for helping others with their relationships and self-esteem is a cover for her own loneliness. Director Amy Heckerling (
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
) made a smart, funny variation on Jane Austen's novel
Emma
, sweetly romantic and gently satirical of

social manners. The cast is unbeatable: Dan Hedaya as Cher's rock-solid dad, Wallace Shawn as a geeky teacher, Paul Rudd as the boy who has always been Cher's surrogate brother--and the true holder of her most secret wishes.

didn't find this funny at all
Comment:
I like watching high school/ teen comedies but this one just didn't click with me.I found Alicia Silverstone's quips unfunny and even a little incomprehensible at times.Get a movie like Mean Girls instead - a high school movie that is funnier and that has a more interesting storyline.

Summary:
a delightful, very enjoyable, very clever film
Comment:
'Clueless' is an adaptation of Jane Austen's 'Emma', transferred to an American high school. It is beautifully scripted and directed (by Amy Heckerling), and all the main elements in the book are very naturally and convincingly paralleled. There's a first-rate central performance from Alicia Silverstone as Cher, the well-meaning but naive and managing Emma equivalent with Paul Rudd a good foil to her in the Knightley role. Special mention for Dan Hedaya as Cher's Dad, a high-powered lawyer putting in a lugubrious but in the end kindly portrayal. But the whole cast are good and there's some very nice ensemble playing. It's something of a feel-good film - nothing wrong with that - but genuinely witty and fresh. Very enjoyable, well worth seeing.

Old and loving it!
Comment:
I first saw this film when I was 30 and it made me laugh - I watched it again more or less straightaway and have never stopped loving it - I'm 40 now and STILL rate it in the top 10 - never has a movie been more quotable and I can only think that if you haven't loved it you haven't watched it properly!!Silverstone is superb - it shouldn't be written off as for airheads!!!

Tiresome
Comment:
After the first 10 minutes you get the message. Rich Kids in LA who party and shop and are Clueless! Got bored after about 40 minutes with similar gags whilst the movie hammers home the theme - i.e. Rich Kids in LA who party, shop and are clueless. Even my 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter said turn it off - which we did. Might get great towards the end but we never got that far! Sorry - wont be watching this again!

As if!
Comment:
Clueless is such a fun movie. It requires little concentration and is so overly funny! Alicia Silverstone is fantastic in her role as the spoiled rich girl Cher trying to do good deeds. My favourite character has to be Travis Birkenstock - the typical stoner! "I'd like to thank all those people at MacDonalds who spend hours making those egg mcmuffins without which I might never be tardy" This movie is not to be missed. I've seen it over 30 times and still laugh at it. The only thing I wonder is why Tai likes Elton? He's vile! As is Christian! Whatever!
