Summary: disappointing...
Comment: I love hip hop and r'n'b music so i thought this dvd would be a fun way to work out, however although i got it almost a year ago I've only used it a few times and not for over 6 months now. Firstly the music is fairly rubbish- surely they could have got some bigger hits, the best track is a song by mya thats about 8yrs old! Also, I didn't feel that I was getting a proper workout- I was sweating by the end but not even close to being out of breath. this dvd might be good for someone that wants to learn a few decent dance moves but who doesnt want a particularly taxing workout.
I would personally recommend the ministry of sound 'pump it up' series if you're looking for a danced based aerobic workout that's genuinely challenging. If you're looking for a really dance-focused one, pump it up high energy has a very difficult but very enjoyable dance section. It's unfortunate that there isn't an 'urban music' workout out there(that I've found anyway) that is really effective - it shouldn't be too difficult you'd think considering that hip-hop dance moves are so dynamic and high energy.

Summary: For people with only a very basic level of fitness
Comment: I was disappointed with this workout as it didn't really feel like a workout! Interesting as it is to learn a few moves, I want to know at the end of the session that I have done my body some good. Don't buy this if you have a moderate level of fitness of higher

Summary: Beware hurting your back
Comment: I always read reviews before I buy a product, so when I read that some people have had back pain after doing this workout DVD, I knew I'd need to be wary.

The workout is fun and the moves are brilliant - proper music video moves - BUT there is practically NO direction from the leader. Seriously, she just does the moves and you follow. I've been dancing for ten years and found it tricky to totally keep up.

But the main problem is the style of dance being used for this workout. In urban dance you dance leaning slightly forward - it's part of the "relaxed" style and you can see them doing it here. But dancing like this for an hour puts serious strain on your back. I realised what was happening and had to make a conscious effort to pull my stomach in and take the strain on my stomach muscles rather than my back muscles. But you don't once hear the leader remind the viewer to pull your tummy in, and I still woke up the next day with an incredibly sore back.

So I guess my advice is - do the workout - but stand up straight and pull in your stomach, even when it looks like you shouldn't!

Summary: Not a traditional workout DVD, but you knew that.
Comment: This is one I bought in the hope the soundtrack would be great. Well, it's OK, but not as motivating as I'd hope from the blurb. You can dance along to it, and it will give you some exercise, but it's not as interesting as the Pump It Up series, and the "Cooool" dancers are frankly rather contrived and artificially "hip", which along with the location (wow, it's a car park!!) shouted Cheap DVD rather than Useful Workout. If you do it the way the dancers do (hard to work out some of their moves sometimes) then it is OK exercise. but I don't find myself wanting to go back to it very often.

Buy if - you want a low stress DVD to dance along to and aren't bothered about traditional structure

Avoid if - you want to have an organised workout that feels like you are working out all your muscle groups

Summary: Mint!!
Comment: I was a little hesitant at first when i bought this dvd, but it is so good it's untrue for me atleast anyway. Unlike other workout dvds where you get bored repeating the same routines. THE Workouts in urban workout all comprimise of dance moves so you can incorporate them into dance routines and busk em out to songs on your ipod as well, definetly a must by especially if your in to dancing. Definetly provides a good workout to do alongside your classes to as it def. improves your strenght and your stamina.
