Summary: what Joss does best
Comment: one of the things i particularly enjoyed about this season is that it is classic Joss wheadon writing. Anytime one of the characters gets any ounce of happiness Joss will take it away. We've seen this before in many of Joss's works like buffy angel the love of her life runs of she gets reduced to sleeping with spike, then we move to angel in the first season one of the main characters killed of mid season before any romance between him and another leading character, but i think im moving away from the origional point which is how in this season angel is given a son and everything seems to be going fine then woop kid gone to hell (literally). the only problem i do have with angel is david boreanaz because he isn't the greatest actor in the world however he does manage to hold his own reasonably and doesn't let the program down so ...

Summary: poorer in quality but pretty decent...still finding its feet
Comment: season three isnt a perfect season of the show and at times is pretty confusing but it does eventually find its feet.
not as good as season 1 was and isn't at all like Buffy the Vampire Slayer(a far superior show)and fails to step out into the light...but it does provide character development and some decent episodes so its not all bad.

Summary: Angelic.
Comment: The brew is perfected here, the balance between melodrama and humour is perfect. At first I thought Holtz was a lame idea for a villain, what can a 19th century human really do to angel? was my line of thinking. How wrong I was, because he is no physical match for angel it is his cleverness and sheer determination than evens the odds a little. Also he isn't evil, not really he see's himself as the hero not a villain. There is much to recommend this series it truly is excellent.

Summary: 'Angel' finally realizes its potential!
Comment: Season 3 of Angel shows many things: how much the show moved away from its parent programme, the excellent Buffy; how much the show grew since its inception; how daring the writers and producers got with the whole idea of the show; and most of all, how stupid the people at Fox are for cancelling this unique, brilliant programme. I get angry every time I think of how they cancelled it.
Anyway, they did, so all we have left are the truly brilliant Seasons 3, 4, and 5, and the slightly flawed but still great Seasons 1 and 2.
The third year of Angel is all about surprises and consequences-- Darla comes back, and she's not alone. Wesley takes a big risk and ends up out in the dark after betraying Angel and the group. Angel continues to brood but finally gets a chance at unconditional love...and Cordelia nearly dies from the burden of the Visions, then has to decide whether or not to leave the group forever (or so she thinks). Gunn (my favourite character) finally gets more screen time and a better storyline, as he and Fred get together, which at first I didn't believe but as time goes on you see how cute they are. Lorne provides brilliant light relief as the demon who reads people when they sing and becomes friendlier to the whole group as he moves into the hotel.
But the best thing about Season 3 is the relationships between the characters, new and old. Unlike earlier seasons, the standalone episodes are not as good as the season's full story arc, which brilliantly links Wolfram and Hart, the prophecies about Angel, his past misdeeds, and the theme of redemption and all this leads to two of the best things about these episodes: Holtz and Connor. The idea of Angel with a baby takes a bit of getting used to, but by the end of the season it's an amazing storyline. It also ends on the best cliffhanger Angel ever got-- the Season 4 ending isn't as good at all, and though the Season 5 one is the best, it's the last one so it's too sad to appreciate :(
People are so often thrown off Buffy and Angel for some reason I don't understand, maybe it's the fantasy stuff, but anyone who likes brilliant television needs to watch both. Immediately.

Standout episodes in Season 3: Well, all of it, but here are my faves: Offspring (Angel/Holtz flashback), Quickening (Darla approaches labour), Lullaby (a brilliant ending for Darla), Waiting in the Wings (a creepy and funny Joss Whedon episode), Loyalty (talking burger!), Sleep Tight (betrayal), Forgiving (Wesley misery), A New World (Connor/Angel interaction is brilliant and poignant), Benediction, and the finale, Tomorrow.

Summary: The season of Wesley?
Comment: In the previous season of Angel, the show developed many of it's darker elements and the darker edges to it's characters, focusing on longer storylines and character development instead of the novelty-monster-of-the-week features of much of the first season. Angel's third season continues these features but irons out many of the rougher edges from the second season to bring the best season of Angel so far (and, according to some, the best season of Angel overall; but I've yet to see the final two and therefore cannot comment).
One of the reasons this season does so well is that it features what many would consider the 'classic lineup' of the members of Angel Investigations; Angel, Wesley, Cordelia, Gunn, Fred and Lorne. These characters have all had a good amount of time to develop so far and get a lot of exposure this time round too. In particular, Wesley gets a good amount of development this season, his darker characteristics coming out so that by the end of the season he's undergone drastic changes that are heart-rending to watch.
Most of the episodes are pretty good on their own merits but all work very well as a larger single story, gladly without the jarring tonal-shift of season 2's end. It's very rewarding for those of you who've watched through the first two seasons and works nicely by itself as well.
If you've enjoyed Angel so far then you're basically guaranteed to love this, it just gets better and better.
