Editorial Reviews: Bound by love for their slain adoptive mother, the brothers in Four Brothers form a unique quartet that gives John Singleton's film a razor's edge of redemption. It's a thin edge, to be sure, because while Singleton's urban Western pays homage to the Blaxpoitation films of the '70s (as he did with his remake of Shaft), it walks a fine line of credibility with a mythic vengeance plot (recalling John Wayne's 1965 hit The Sons of Katie Elder) that endorses violence as the last resort of a family under siege.

When a saintly foster mother (Fionnula Flanagan) is gunned down in a convenience store, her only adopted sons (two white, two black, played respectively by Mark Wahlberg, Garrett Hedlund, Tyrese Gibson and Andre Benjamin) go after the killers, only to discover that their mother's death was not a random event. As they uncover a sticky web of criminal activity involving a local kingpin (Chiwitel Ejiofor), the character-driven plot races toward an inevitable showdown, with ex-con Wahlberg leading the way.

Making excellent use of blue collar locations in Detroit, Singleton keeps the action moving fast enough that the film's lack of realism is easily ignored, and the well-drawn characters (including Terrence Howard as a tenacious detective) lend emotional dimension to an otherwise familiar revenge scenario. Four Brothers is manipulative, but it's filled with grace notes of rugged working-class humanity, and it definitely holds your attention.-- Jeff Shannon

Summary: Very good stuff, a real cut above
Comment: This revenge film has a lot of action, attitude and good old fashioned destruction. Convincing performances and a real edge to some of the dialogue lift it up. This movie delivers well.

Summary: disposable
Comment: avererage assembly line rubbish.it gives you everything you could want from this type of movie but after sitting through so many other revenge flicks over the last few years it just feels a bit boring to be honest

Summary: a decent action packed film
Comment: The critics couldn't agree on this one. Some loved it and some hated it, but what do they know ?? Probably worth a 3.5 star rating.

In truth, after a slightly slow start, the film is spectacular in places. The car chase and the big shoot out, will keep you glued to your screens. The storyline has the advantage of not being tried before and the film is none the worse for this.

Perfection, probably not !! But enjoyable for most and worth staying in for.

Summary: Ridiculous
Comment: Everything about this film reeks of cheese. Ridiculous plot, ridiculous unbelievable action sequences. An example would be the shoot out which, bearing in mind it's set in residential area, may as well have been set in a war zone. Unnecessary contrived dialogue as found in the car chase sequence. Topped off with a layer of bad bad acting. The only good thing about it is the fact that it finishes. I was hoping for more from Jon Singleton, but if this is standard of his modern output, he should consider another career. Utter rubbish.

Summary: Whatever was the excuse for making this film............................
Comment: I can only assume it had something to do with the "actors" needing funds to pay their IRS bills. The plot surrounds a mother (Fionulla Flanagan - no acting Diva here) who early in life adopted 4 boys, 2 white,2 black at intervals, none of these were apparently wanted by anyone and all had "problems".They grow into men and when she gets shot and dies in a hold-up, which is apparently a set up job they return to seek their revenge. The revenge is very timid, including a shoot out where even when it stops the street is still empty and without the usual nosy neighbours, and everything that happens can be foreseen 10 minutes before you get there. The actors Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson and 2 relative unknowns all look bored and wooden, the plot has been seen before in countless films and has been better done and watching paint dry would better serve your time.
