Editorial Reviews: Red Eye is the latest movie from Wes Craven, whose most recent successes, the Scream trilogy, give some flavour of what to expect here.

The action once again centres on a strong, young woman, this time called Lisa and played by Rachel McAdams (recently seen in Wedding Crashers), who spends all her time managing a busy hotel. On a flight back from a funeral, she finds herself sat next to a wealthy businessman, played by Cillian Murphy (whose performance remains one of the many highlights of Batman Begins. He has an agenda however, that involves using Lisa to clear the way for a contract killing at her hotel. With her father at home under constant watch, and sat next to a man threatening to kill him, the stage is set for a healthy little thriller.

And that’s just what Red Eye is. While some distance away from Craven’s best work, it has some big pluses in its favour. Firstly, it’s a very swift ride that doesn’t outstay its welcome, speeding through plot developments that others in the genre would sit and ponder on for some time. It’s also got the charm of Rachel McAdams in the lead role, who pitches well against the sneer and creepiness of Cillian Murphy. And finally, it delivers good old fashioned Friday night fun, without having pretensions to do anything else.

So while it’s hardly a defining thriller in any way, nor is it without one or two unintentional giggles, Red Eye works surprisingly well. In the hands of a lesser director, it’s got all the ingredients for straight-to-video hell, but with Craven at the helm and his two leads performing well, it’s a movie that happily punches above its weight.--Simon Brew

Summary: Tense little thriller
Comment: The thing that I like about Red Eye is that most of the film is set in one location, the plane. Most films that are set in one location become boring after half an hour but Red Eye is different.

Lisa Reisert (Rachael McAdams), is flying home to Miami after going to her grandmother's funeral in Texas. After discovering her flight is delayed, she is asked by Jackson Ripner (Cillian Murphey), a fellow passenger is she would like a drink in the airport bar, at first, Lisa refuses but after thinking it through, she says yes.

After Lisa and Jackson finish their drinks and say their goodbyes, Lisa boards the plane and is delighted to discover that she will be sitting next to Jackson. After take-off, Jackson reveals that he is the head of a assassin organisation and he needs Lisa to call her her hotel in Miami, and put a high profile politition is a different room to make is easier for Jackson's assassins to kill him, and if Lisa refuses, then Jackson will tell a assassin who is waiting outside Lisa's dads house to kill him.

Red Eye is a fantastic film to enjoy on a Friday night with your family and friends.

Summary: could have been great
Comment: This is one of those movies were the punchline gets spoiled in the trailer, ruining the only thing that this movie has and leaving the audience expecting what they already know is going to happen. Not a horror film, this is Craven's attempt at playing with tension rather than blood and razors and if it wasnt for the fact that we know who the badass is going be before the movie starts it could have been a great film...otherwise its just good.

Summary: An excellent thriller - and no sex, nudity or bad language!
Comment: The fact that this movie is classified as suitable for 12 years olds meant that the whole family could sit and watch it, which we did, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

However, don't let this fool you into thinking that this film is not for adults. It's a gripping movie right up to the end. I guess the rating is due to the fact that the movie does not contain sex, nudity or bad language - a blessing in my view and proof that it is possible to make an action/thriller/suspense movie without the need to introduce these elements (although the movie does contain some violence).

Other reviewers here have described the plot so it seems pointless to repeat these details but I highly recommend this movie. A thriller in which the suspense gradually increases to a dramatic climax with the two main characters, a seemingly friendly but ultimately evil villain and an unfortunate victim trapped and apparently at his mercy, both excellently portrayed by Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams.

Summary: Scary Thriller
Comment: Isn't Cillian Murphy a scary person in this. Good though. He makes your heart stop for a moment. Also a great action movie.

Intense on the plane and then action when they land. How cool is that in a no blood or gore movie.
