Summary: Superb challenging hallucinatory psychodrama
Comment: This is a film that bends the mind like "Mulholland Drive" and like that film the clue lies in the opening sequence, in this case with the burning car on Brooklyn Bridge, if you understand this you will understand what is happening in the film.

"Stay" is an awesome achievement, delving into real life in an hallucinatory drama centred on a superb performance by Ryan Gosling as the psychologically unstable student Henry Letham. Psychiatrist Sam Foster (Ewan McGregor) becomes involved in the life of his perplexing patient whose behaviour resonates with his partners problems, Lila Culpepper (Naomi Watts).

This is one helluva complex, multifaceted, multilayered drama that stretches the mind and demands undivided attention from start to finish.

Summary: Put the work in...
Comment: This is an easy film to dissmiss as "arty farty nonsense", however if you put some extra thought into it, a world without boundaries will open up for you, a world we all know well as our own subconcious.

If you enjoy the confusing feeling that you get waking up after a particularly vivid, dissjointed and complex dream, and you like to ponder the merits of the dream from different perspectives (a story, a long and perplexing assembly of metaphores - to name a few)then this film is a document of that experience.

I dissmissed it, but now I can say that I fully enjoyed it.

Summary: A tale of Phenomenology
Comment: I think the problem people have with this film is that they try and interpret it as a 'story' dealing with 'relationships' in the common sense view. But it is actually an exposition of basic Phenomenological principles: essentially the problems of subjectivity and objectivity, and how the mind discerns these. In its essence it is the same as the Matrix films. It is then a film expounding a philosophical view via drama - hence, the characters don't seem 'real', and overall it is weird. Personally I think a good intro to this method of thinking is the book by Sokolowski, 'Introduction to Phenomenology' - it isn't a history of the philosophy, it just explains in around 227 pages how to think like this (hence it is a good foundation that will enable you to interpret such films). I don't agree with Phenomenology, but this film was a very artistic and thorough expounding of this philosophy, so it get full marks.

Summary: Fascinating Film
Comment: I thought this film was fascinating and gripping from start to finish. As another reviewer has said, probably best not to try to work it out, just go with it. It was worth watching a second time; several unexlained things fell into place. The storyline has been reported in other reviews but what can't be conveyed is the way the film unfolds. If you enjoyed The Butterfly Effect, Eternal Sunshine and the Spotless Mind and maybe The Island, you may well like this. I started watching the film with no particular expectation and ended it saying "That was great". It's offbeat and compelling in my opinion and I am sorry to see some reviewers have not enjoyed it but I certainly did. I don't normally review films I watch but it's because I enjoyed this so much that I wanted to comment.

Comment: I thought this film was awesome. It is very sort of experimental, and uses alot of effects which make some scenes look amazing!
The story line is a mind mess, it has been made to make you think one thing, when in the end you find out the truth. Id recomend people to watch it.
Some people might have to watch it twice to get the jist better. But as a media student id say AWESOME!!!
