Editorial Reviews: Season one of Prison Break is great television. Here's the set-up. Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is framed and wrongfully convicted for assassinating the Vice President's brother. Lincoln's brother Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), who just happens to have designed Illinois' Fox River Penitentiary where Lincoln is on death row, hatches an elaborate escape plan. Michael's plan involves getting himself incarcerated in Fox River and smuggling the prison's blueprints by having them hidden in tattoos that cover his entire torso. Once inside, Michael must form alliances with a rogue's gallery of felons with their own sometimes unsavory motives. Meanwhile, on the outside, Lincoln's lawyer and one-time girlfriend Veronica Donovan (Robin Tunney), pursued by Secret Service agents, attempts to unravel the conspiracy that sent her man to the slammer.

Prison Break is anchored by tight, suspenseful writing clearly relished by the largely little-known cast. Standouts include Robert Knepper as the murderer/pedophile T-Bag, who somehow makes such a despicable character likeable. Stacey Keach of Mike Hammer fame plays the warden-with-a-heart-of-gold, who clashes with Captain Brad Bellick (Wade Williams) over whether to rehabilitate the inmates or makes their lives more miserable. Peter Stormare, famous for his skills with a wood chipper in Fargo, turns in a deliciously menacing performance as mob boss John Abruzzi, while Amaury Nolasco's winsome Fernando Sucre shares a cell and secrets with Miller's Scofield. Watching the show one gets a sense that this is the opening salvo of Wentworth Miller's career, which will doubtless include roles as assassins, detectives, super heroes, and perhaps the champion of staring contests. Midway through the season it's explained that Scofield is a genius with an heightened sensitivity to other peoples' suffering, which sums up what makes the show so great--the mind-bendingly intricate plot is a framework for moments when people make others suffer and cope with the burden of their own suffering.

The six-disc set includes 22 addictive episodes, audio commentary on selected episodes, three featurettes, and alternate and deleted scenes. As with most TV shows on DVD, the "previously on Prison Break" intros can get tiresome, but that's what the fast forward button is for. --Ryan Boudinot

Summary: Couldn't be better!
Comment: Being a hardcore 24 fan, I was sceptical whether anything else could top it.
I couldn't have neen more wrong, prison break is full to bursting with both loveable and hateable characters, each one is perfectly portrayed. Most notably Peter Stormare as Abruzzi.
The plot has so many twists and turns it makes 24 look like the tweenies.
Just do your dvd player a favour and buy this box set.
You will not regret it!!!

Summary: Too ridiculous for words
Comment: Great idea, good casting, some good acting - after watching a few episodes I got the feeling that someone, somewhere thought "Hey, we can string this along for AGES...." and that's exactly what they do. It isn't the type of thing that anyone with half a brain can watch. We are supposed to believe that the 'grunts' who run the prison are, in fact, super sleuths who can read the minds of most of the convicts. The bad guys are always allowed to get away in order to come back again (even when there is a wonderful opportunity to wipe them out - at one point a gunshot at point-blank range fails to miss the mark). I am sorry, there are simply too many instances like that to mention. It becomes an adult panto "He's behind you." I can't believe that this series was so popular. I didn't even bother watching to the end, it was simply too ridiculous for words.

Summary: Best TV I Have EVER Seen
Comment: Its not often I bother to write reviews but I have enjoyed Prison Break so much I just have to write to say its the best tv I have ever seen. I was gripped from start to finish, sat on the edge of my seat and glued to the screen. Brilliant casting, superb acting and amazing writers. The plot twists and turns - its full of adventure along with cliff hangers in each and every episode. Its been worth every penny...I am completely hooked and now a huge fan.

Summary: Buy It!!
Comment: Massive fan of 24, and less so of Lost, I was reluctantly persuaded to buy this as something to watch while waiting for 24 season 7 to arrive. The first episode had me so hooked (not just for the wonderful eye candy of the 2 brothers!) for the script, but also wondering how a whole series could be dedicated to breaking out of prison (like all the other reviewers say). However, the show was so addictive, I found myself abandoning the kids, the household chores and everything else to watch the whole lot in one weekend - then immediately had to get both Seasons 2 and 3. This is not something I usually do, prompting me to write this review. Everyone who likes a good story which does make your mind work will enjoy this - though I must say it is without doubt the best of the 3 seasons so far.

Summary: THE BENCH MARK HAS BEEN RAISED!!!!
Comment: I am a massive fan of 24 and I mean massive I am waiting for season 7 to hit our shores so I wanted something to watch until this happens. I decided to give Prison Break ago because I saw it cheap in my local DVD shop. Well I am lost for words how good this is it is totally brillant and the story and acting has in my eyes raised the bench mark big time. I never ever thought I would say this but this is better than 24 by a mile you really have to sit back and admire how clever this is the story grips you and doesn't let go. As for the Michael going in to the Prison with blue prints all over his body was mind blowing and it does look so real. There are some really likeable charactors but for me T-Bag steals the show top draw acting and some brillant one liners. The main boys like Michael, Bellick, Abruzzi,C-Note,Sucre and Lincoln are again very good actors I hope season 2 is as good as this if it is I will be well pleased. If you haven't watched this I would say to you that you are missing out on a real treat, for a die hard 24 fan to say this is better than 24 it must be worth watching!!!
