Summary: does whatever an over-budgeted cash-in can...
Comment: Spiderman. Spiderman started all this. The sudden rush of superhero blockbusters. So what's behind the mask, behind the hype? Well i'd like to skip the first film, which in a word was enjoyable with the usual problem of predictability. Spiderman 2, this is where things could've either escalated to lofty heights or crashed and burned, unfortunately, it burned. The focus of the film seems too heavily focused on Peter Parkers life outside of spiderman and he really isnt a very likable character, he's whiney and unlovably nerdy and carries a certain arrogance in the performance like Peter Parker simply isnt meant to have. People complained about the train scene, saying is was cringe-worthily ridiculous, but in my oppinion it was one of the saving graces of the film.

Spiderman 3, this was difficult to watch, once again the plot focuses in for a long time about Peters love life, his relationship with his friend, Harry his job and doesnt pick up pace until too late in the film for anyone to really care. Now the clincher, which really ruined the movie if nothing else did, its the ridiculous casting of Eddie Brock, played by the annoying Topher Grace who seemed unable to let go his role of Eric in That 70's Show, he was so many things Eddie Brock simply wasnt meant to be; Something Eddie Broke IS meant to be, is venom, and Venom features too breifly to save the film, and too long to just be sparking excitement for whatever future the spiderman films have, which would've been an incredibly difficult task at the end of a movie like this.

These films have everything they need, the problem is they have too much of what they dont need and as a result they dont flow very well. They're worth a watch on TV, but I couldnt finish watching Spiderman-3 until the third watch, and I struggled to get past the half-way hump.

It's just dissapointing is all.

Summary: Good spidey film just needs more spark, heart and venom
Comment: Okay so here is me a huge spidey fan (of the comics) and this film dispite what meny say is NOT as bad as meny claim.

Quite frankly i enjoyed it but it needs that story telling drive it had in two and even flawed one had that as well 3 just missed in it my eyes.
There was too meny storylines and only so much time to play with but you see thats my main thing with the film the villains... well that and emo dance petey but mostly..... Venom.

Ah Venom.

He is and most likely always will be in my eyes the king of comic book bad guys its a shame they used him for min or two and BOOM gone.
The storyline was kinda stupid also but if you can get past the flaws its a good superhero film at least rent it give it try.

Summary: Spider Meh
Comment: A very busy movie. Soooo many plots and not enough film to go around. Which is a shame, because it has a lot of interesting potential.

I was most taken with the Sandman's plight and wanted to see what would become of his very misguided but somewhat worthy quest. Unfortunately Venom, a vengeful Hobgoblin, an alien shape changing symbiotic thingy, a gormless relationship problem and a silly loss of memory all turned up and threw the whole thing off track.

Brilliant special effects and action sequences, but seriously lacking any ruddy coherence bar everyone melodramatically stropping all over the place looking a bit moody. Except Aunt May, who looked rather chipper for a change.

I'd say in terms of story telling, this was the weakest of the three movies, but it stilled retained it's entertainment factor. Too bad about the sloppy closure and huge gaping plot holes...but meh, it's still worth a look see.

Summary: awful film, good special effects, but that's it!
Comment: The reason I wanted to see this film was the confrontation between Peter and his friend Harry who becomes the green goblin in his fathers place, but it was over in five minutes at the beginning. After that I was hoping that venom would be better however, what the hell!! This film suffers terribly with too many villains, messy script and it seemed that everything was being crammed in. The special effects were brilliant, but that's it. Tobey Maguire being evil was actually comical, especially when he was strutting down the street. But I was so dissapointed with this installment. It gave me such a headache.Overall wouldn't get this, even if they sold it for a quid!!

Summary: MUCH better the second time round!
Comment: When I first saw this film in the cinema I was dissapointed as were many fans, the latest instalment of the Spider-Man films just didn't live up to the two previous ones, and that was saying something as I didn't even like the 2nd film! But I watched this again last night, over a year from when I saw it orignally and have to say - it's a pretty darn good film!

All the faults I found with it initially seemed to vanish - the 'emo bad boy Peter' scene was cringey, but made me laugh out loud rather than hang my head with embaressment. There were too many bad guys in this film, but the Sandman was no longer a boring side plot leading up to the fight with Venom that was all that most fans seemed interested in - it was an interesting story in it's own right (though still with it's plot-holes - how did the locket survive when everything else was obliterated?!). Happy Peter Parker at the beginning too wasn't just a weird turn in the story either - it made sense, fit in with the rest of the plot, with MJ and Peter's arguments, it all linked in together and was for the greater good of teh story. Overall, it was such an improvement it felt like an entirely different film, though of course it wasn't - my expectations were just a lot lower.

I've always thought the chemistry between the main three friends, MJ, Harry and Peter, was fantastic when they were all together. James Franco (Harry Osborn) and Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane Watson) especially seem to have a genuine chemistry which shines through the screen. However, scenes alone between Dunst and Maguire felt awkward and forced - I'm not sure whether it was purely in this film that this has happened or whether it was the same in previous films but I just hadn't noticed, but considering they are the main couple of the films it is surprising and definatley something to work on for future Spider-Man productions.

Finally, the last 40 minutes or so of the films - the final battle - is probably one of my favourite movie endings ever - I won't say anything that may spoil it but it's definate eye candy and will have you on the edge of your seat, even if like me you've already seen it once before.
