Back to Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World's End [Blu-ray]
Spotlight customer reviews:

Summary:
Definitely a sequel too far.
Comment:
After the first excellent "Pirates" film and a very enjoyable second one, I was eagerly looking
forward to seeing how the story would be tied-up in this third and final part. What we got, however,
was just badly thought out and far-fetched rubbish set in a complete fantasy world which I could
barely keep up with.
It is little more than three hours of elaborate special effects,
hashed together without the support of any kind of credible script. By half way through, I was
completely lost as to what was going on and falling asleep because it is impossible to keep up with
who is dead and who is alive, or who is on who's side! I thought maybe my understanding would
improve as I watched it again, but sadly after several attempts I am still none the wiser. It is
also way too long - three hours was unnecessary.
The characters are mostly the same,
with a few added. Orlando Bloom's character seems to get completely lost and lacks the depth of the
earlier Will Turner, and Elizabeth has become an oddly-dressed tomboy. Of course, the best is still
Jack Sparrow, played hilariously by the marvellous Johnny Depp.
A very disappointing
end to what should have been a great trilogy. If this is the best the writers could come up with
then they should have left it at two films. Or maybe even just the one.

Worst Blue Ray ever
Comment:
This film is the ultimate trilogy let down. After Pirates 1, a downward slope occured.
Too
long, too boring, I wonder why have Chow Yun Fat in there, was there a point in the Singapore
scenes. Bruckheimer and Disney have to much money.
Keira Knightly and Orlando Bloom are the
most non-gifted actors ever.
God help us if we live in a world where either of them receive an
oscar.
Ungratifying rubbish

Summary:
great addition to the blu ray collection
Comment:
Having watched this quite a few times both on the cinema and now this disc, all i can say is
fantastic. If like me, you have the big LCD TV, surround sound and the trusty PS3, this is a
definite must have for your collection.
Sure, the storyline can be a little confusing
at times but the amount of action and just the role of Jack Sparrow more than makes up for this.

The extras are plentiful with some decent background on the story and pirating.

Summary:
Looks good but a bit boring
Comment:
I really enjoyed and bought the first 2 films in this series. I thought they were good family
entertainment and were great for showing off the merits of blu-ray. The second film I thought was
even better than the first. My expectations for the 3rd film were therefore high but when I rented
it I was disappointed and will not be buying it. Although the visuals were even more impressive than
the first 2 films the plot was more of the same, added nothing and tended to drag on a bit. If you
are familiar with the first 2 films you will not feel this one gives you anything more. I hope they
don't go for a 4th film.

Summary:
Enjoyable mixed up muddle full of weirdness and silly twists
Comment:
Anyone expecting a coherent third instalment of the Pirate's series will likely be very
disappointed!
All the ingredients are here yet the finished product doesn't quite work.
It's like the whole is LESS than the sum of the parts.
The start of the story revolves
around finding Jack and bringing him back from Davy Jones' locker which ultimately leads to one of
the oddest scenes I've scene in recent film history! I think the only reason this film works at all
is because of Johnny Depp. His portrayal of Jack Sparrow (sorry, CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow) is very
watchable and he's just so funny in this film. Everyone else is merely supporting him in various
states of wooden-ness. Sorry but Orlando just doesn't cut it in this film, nor does Kiera. Sure they
both look pretty but neither can hold a torch to Johnny Depp who's quite clearly having a ball. Of
course that's just my opinion.
So why 4 stars? Well, however I turn it I can't help but
enjoy the film for all it's faults. If you switch your brain off and don't take it too seriously,
which, let's face it, won't be too hard then the film is thoroughly enjoyable. The story is all over
the show and the twists and turns come thick and fast and I found it impossible to figure out who's
crossing who most of the time!
The cast is top notch though apart from the two
offenders I mentioned earlier :p. The two pirates from the first two films (the one with the wooden
eye and his pal) provide plenty of comedy relief when Johnny Depp isn't running the show.
/>Being on Bluray the picture quality is simply outstanding. The detail level on a full HD set is
simply incredible - these discs really are fantastic when done correctly. It's like the jump from
VHS to DVD all over again for me. The resolution is so high that when you see film grain, like you
do in this film, it's because the disc authors intend you to see it to retain the more organic feel
of the original film stock, not because the media can't actually output a pristine clear picture
like older formats. There's an uncompressed 5.1 PCM soundtrack which seems louder and more punchy
than the standard Dolby Digital 5.1. Both are great and round out the top class presentation.
/>
A separate mention must also be made of the special effects which are really top class
throughout the film. Especially on Davy Jones himself who displays incredible detail. Full HD really
lets you enjoy them to the max.
So all in all if you like the Pirates film as I do then
buy it without reservation. There will be something here to please you although it's not, I feel, as
good as it could have been!
