Summary: Comfortingly accurate.
Comment: I saw this film about two months ago, whilst home on a Saturday night, moping about my scumbag ex. Sister decided to cheer me up and headed off to the video shop. Clearly she doesn't read the reviews and just saw Guy from Green Wing and assumed this would be the kind of thing that would have me smiling again.

She must have got lucky (am certain it wasn't judgement) because it really did. After the horribly awkward first 15 minutes where it could've gone either way it was a very genuine portrayal of how real men (depressingly I think it's all too accurate) are.

Sensitive and understated, it's an absolute antidote to any Richard Curtis nonsense (with all it's 'you're nobody til somebody loves you' rubbish) and I would highly recommend to women who've been messed about and men who have some ability to reflect on their gender.

Stops the moping in its tracks. Promise.

Summary: Witty and understated
Comment: Superb. One of those films that actually feels like it's about real people. Captures both the fragility and the ruthlessness of the search for "The One", but handles the theme with such lightness and wit that it brings a genuine smile to your face. Rare to see a film of such honesty in the cinemas these days. Compulsory viewing for that 25-45 age group.

Summary: One of those films you keep looking back on...
Comment: Such a shame this film did not become wider known at the time of release, for all those people who may be unaware (as yet) of this little gem. But luckily a second chance to see it (again and again) is upon us, with its release on DVD. Under-stated, touching, well-scripted and beautifully shot, it is one of those films that touch all of us on some level, combining deep themes with light-hearted humour.
Well worth the money, for your own enjoyment, as well as for lending out to friends who will soon find themselves joining the fan club.

Summary: A Great London (lost) Love Film
Comment: A great British indie that deserved a bit more coverage on release - but it's hard to get access to the big screens these days. It should benefit from DVD and I highly recommend adding this to your 'to watch' list. It is perfect indie film length and is paced really well; the performances are top rate and director Col Spector elicits a fantastic deadpan, performance from Stephen Mangan - different to his usual style, but with all the qualities that we recognise.
It easily kept my attention, I laughed in all the right places, I didn't quite want it to end and thought about it for the next few days.
A great little gem - discover it for yourself!

Summary: An unromantic comedy.
Comment: David (Stephen Mangan of Green Wing fame) decides to leave long-term girlfriend Lisa for someone else, before he has to marry her. The only trouble is his new girl has also found someone else...

The desert dry humour of this film is the perfect antidote to Love Actually or Notting Hill. Reminiscent of the best of Woody Allen, it could have in fact have been 'Not Love, actually". Brilliant! Don't miss it.
