Editorial Reviews: This is the fifth feature-length film in which the Rolling Stones appeared, their most well-known being Gimme Shelter in 1970. In this instance, their 1980 performances at the Sun Devil stadium of Arizona State University in Tempe and at the indoor Meadowlands Arena in New Jersey are presented in sequence.

Summary: Good clean fun!!!!
Comment: The Stones have earned their mantle for being real musicians. They can be rightly be called as legends having been responsible for Beggars banquet, Let it bleed, Sticky fingers and Exile on main street which are Classic albums essential for anybody who is into Rock music.

While they have produced serious stuff, they have never taken themselves seriously, they are a fun band and out to entertain. As, at the time this was filmed, they were nearing middle age, they were not out to shock to appeal to the teenyboppers, they were out to be as outrageous as possible and wallow in the 'debauched rock and roll lifestyle'.

IMHO, this is a perfect example of it.

Sure Jagger can't sing and the guitars sounded out of tune but that was not what they were about, it was about the show they put on. How many bands has the lead singer run about the stage like a maniac and even running through the crowd? How many has a bevvy of leggy beauties coming out on stage? How many bands can go out and smoke and drink on the stage and still put on a show (no this is not glamorising binge drinking, just looking at Keith Richards swigging from a bottle of Jack D and seeing how bad he looks would put you off it!!)? How many bands has such a catalogue of classic songs? Not many.

As well as the energetic performances, I also enjoyed the visuals, the picture quality was crisp, bright and colourful. This as well as sunny Arizona weather went well with the music, it's great especially for myself on the dreek dark nights were it reminds me of those bright sunny days (we do have those days occasionally in Scotland!!), getting in the car, the windscreen down, putting the music right up and going for a long drive.

Don't get hung up on technical proficiency just enjoy the show for first class showmanship.

Summary: For completists only !
Comment: If it had just been the shoddy performances, or unimaginative presentation that spoilt this concert film, it might have escaped being the pretty awful specimen that it is.
The fact that no one else has posted a review for this speaks volumes... I can hardly be bothered myself - but I thought it might be useful for anyone contemplating spending good money on it.
So, to specifics - the track listing includes "Black Limousine" "All Down the Line" "Brown Sugar" "You Can't Always Get what you Want" "Honky Tonk Women" "Jumpin' Jack Flash" "Let It Bleed" "Let's Spend the Night Together" "Satisfction" "Under My Thumb" "Going To A Go-Go" "Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)" "Time Is On My Side" "Twenty Flight Rock" - which should be an ok set.. but the performances are often sloppy, rushed and uninspired.
In fact, the musical highlight is probably the fireworks display at the end with Hendrix's Woodstock recording of "Star Spangled Banner" coming over the P.A. !
Visually, most of the film is straight footage of the concert, although "Time Is On My Side" features some random archive film...
Overall, not their finest hour
