Summary:
heartbreaking weepy
Comment:
they do not make films like brief encounter anymore but atonement comes very close with a war
setting thrown in.i think about this film even now after watching it last september at the cinema.
you really feel for celia and robbie especially the scene were they say goodbye as she rides away on
the london bus as i said heartbreaking stuff

Surprisingly good
Comment:
I read the book after having been recommended it by my favourite literature teacher and after
expecting so much I was a little disappointed, although I still thought it was an beautifully
written story. However, I wasn't expecting much from this film because it is so rare that a film can
satisfy you're imagination if you've read the book.
I was surprised on many levels. Not only
was the plot followed so well that it didn't annoy me, but the directing and photography made a
stunning film. This was on top of the fact that Kiera knightley usually annoys me no end whatever
film i see her in, but i actually became so wrapped up in this film that i barely noticed it was
her. This moving tale has been made into one of the best book adaptations I have ever seen.

Summary:
a period tragedy realised ; wonderful visually, wonderfully acted
Comment:
This is an absorbing and involving adaptation of a wonderful, subtle novel which does justice to
that novel. Visually it is often stunning. The now-famous single-shot scene on Dunkirk beach is
extraordinary. But the other, more langorous scenes back at that hot, hot country house work very
well too. The emptiness of that summer, with the class distinctions underpinning all, is almost
claustrophobic, as it should be. The two central performances, of James MacAvoy and Kiera Knightley,
are virtually flawless, and later in the film Romola Garai is really just as good as the poor
younger sister trying to atone for the dreadful thing she has done by forcing herself to face the
worst horrors of the hospital ward receiving the Dunkirk wounded. There has to be a mention for
Vanessa Redgrave too, absolutely compelling as the sister-turned-writer at the end. All the period
detail works and the film holds you tight to the very end - which is what very good films do.

Amazing.
Comment:
It's probably the best motion I've seen in ages. Nor the typical war film neither the typical
romance between the lovers. Joe Wright perfectly managed to re-create a novel of four hundred
something pages into two 2 hours movie. I am glad they finally got the Golden Globe award for best
drama motion, it was well deserved. I love James McAvoy's acting, shame he didn't get the best
actor. I read the novel before going to see the film and I am not disappointed at all. You go see
it, it's worth it.
