Comment: Okay, my review is going to be a lot like this dvd box set, great value without the frills. You've got a BBC sci-fi comedy, one of the best and most orginal of its era in a no frills dvd boxset (at the time of this review) at under £35. Mr Flibble can't even be cross with that!

Summary: Smegging Brilliant
Comment: This box includes every single one of the shows! I couldn't believe it when I saw it (only £33.98 with free postage at time of writing)... I would recommend this to anyone, nicely packaged and 'disced', couldn't be happier. 10/10

Summary: It's Big. Really Big.
Comment: The first impression I got upon opening the newly delivered Amazon parcel was "It's big!" Not just big, but A4 big. I guess the fact that it was described as a `photo album style box' should have tipped me off, but you just don't realise quite how big this box set is until you see it up close.

Brushing aside the fact that I would now have to work out how this big box of Dwarf would fit on my DVD shelf, I opened the box to reveal some rather interesting packaging. Inside the box is a package which looks like a proper photo album, pictures taken by all the Red Dwarf crew with comments under each one.

The pages are (as you'd expect) divided in to series, with each page containing a DVD in a special holder. For those fussy about how their DVDs are stored this might come as a shock, but the DVDs for each series come in a glossy card wallet which forms part of the page. On the downside, this means it's fiddly to get them in and out, though it does make the discs easy to find. The last 2 series are split over 2 discs each (hence the whole set being 10 discs for 8 series, no extras here).

I'm sure you're dying to find out whether these hold any extra incentive over the standalone sets (Just the Shows volume 1 and 2) and the answer is: no. Only the fact that this is marked as a 20th Anniversary set and the novelty packaging really set this apart.

So why get this over the 2 separate sets? Simple; it's the cost. At £35 it represents great value for those viewers not worried about extras. I've actually collected series 1 and 3 from the 2 disc sets to get the best extras and then added the Just the Smegs set to get all the Smeg Ups. To me this works out the best value while still getting some of the extras.

So if you find that you have a photo album sized space in your DVD collection and want to watch the whole of Red Dwarf before the new episodes air next year, this is the perfect solution. If you want extras, however, then you're going to need to buy the individual box sets.

Summary: Smegging Wonderful!
Comment: I received this product this morning (I was expecting to receive it in two days' time, so that's a good start!)

I haven't opened it as of yet, but this is just a 'first impression' description for those of you who are curious.

The collection comes in an A4-sized package, about the size of an A4 book, for example, which suprised me - I was expecting a regular-sized boxset - like most other boxsets - with about 8-10 individual 'sections', each containing a disc. I am wrong. It contains 10 discs featuring every episode from every series of Red Dwarf. As mentioned, I have yet to open the boxset, but from the size and shape of it, I can only assume that the discs are all layed flat and possibly 'overlapping' one another slightly, as opposed to them being laid side-by-side. It is approximately 1 inch-1.5 inches thick.

The cover looks elegant, predominantly black, and the front of the set simply has the Red Dwarf logo and the words "Anniversary Edition, ALL THE SHOWS". The back cover has an image of Red Dwarf itself (the main (red) ship that the crew predominantly travelled on) with images of all 10 discs protruding from the side of it.

Overall this set looks wonderful and is a definite must-have for all fans of the series. If you simply want Red Dwarf for just the shows and nothing more, then this is the set to buy. I am unsure as to whether or not this set has any extras at all, however I doubt that it does as the cover quite clearly says, "ALL THE SHOWS".

Nevertheless, Red Dwarf for me is all about the programme itself and unless you are somebody who likes to sit there watching hours and hours of extras and outtakes/'Smegs', then this is the best Red Dwarf DVD set available to buy, in my opinion; and at around the £30.00 mark it's definitely a wonderful investment!

Highly recommended!
