Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Good Value for Money Comment: Can't quite understand the harsh reviews of this neat little radio set. It's the ideal portable radio for use in the garden, on a train or around the house. It's actually available in FIVE different colours! I bought this black one for my parents and they find it generally fit for purpose. Firstly, it's the only DAB radio I've ever seen for under 30 euro (£25)! It's also extremely light at just 525g (with batteries in). The sound quality is excellent for such a small set; it's clear without being "tinny". There's a rotary knob on the front that allows you scroll through the various radio stations available before you actually confirm that you wish to retune (takes a little getting used to but it's a novel feature). And changing channel within an ensemble is instantaneous; there isn't even the half-second delay you get with most DAB sets. Other reviewers dislike the incremental volume control but it doesn't seem to bother my parents. You can store up to 20 presets (10 DAB and 10 FM) and the screen is clear. There are two minor design flaws in my view; Firstly, the ON/OFF switch should be readily distinguishable from the other buttons and should be located AWAY from them. Secondly, the battery compartment looks as if it was designed by a jet-lagged COBOL programmer on cannabis! Use the mains whenever you can as that will save you the hassle of "digging out" the batteries. Customer Rating: Summary: deeply frustrated Comment: I thought this was an adequate radio, until I tried to replace the batteries. It sounds stupid, but they are just about impossible to get out, unless you have fingers shaped like toothpicks. I had to use a penknife to get out (and destroy) the batteries. I read the negative reviews and thought it cant be that bad but this radio is a shocker. the speaker must be made out of a beer can, it's tinny and annoying to listen to for more then 30 mins. any tunes that you have heard before take 30 secs to recognize because anything over than high range is lost. i would liken it to the little pocket radio you take to football matches to check the scores. my advise would be to spend 20 pounds more and get a decent radio or keep with the one you have because it can't be any worse than this. Customer Rating: Summary: Look at the price for goodness sake! Comment: Just received from Amazon. Well packed and presented, easy to use, gets all the stations. Small speaker is a limitation, but this is not at Bose prices. Frankly, I cannot see what there is to complain about with this item. Of course, if abused it will, like any other consumer product, break down. If treated with respect, I cannot see why it should not give completely satisfactory service. I have long suspected that careless users of many products blame the product rather than admitting their own culpability.
