Summary: Poor Quality, Beware White Screen of Death!!
Comment: I bought one of these and it never worked. At all!
Do yourself a favour and Google the
following:

Creative Zen White Screen of Death

This is caused by poor
quality control at Creative and will leave you with a dead or intermittently faulty device. Don't
touch this one with your musical barge pole!!

Summary: I like it. :)
Comment: This Media player is as small as your average credit card and weighs about 65 grams. It has a 2.5"
TFT screen which supports 16.7 million colours. Yes, it surely gives a beautiful, vivid colour
display.

It comes in different capacity. 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB and a 32 GB. I have this 2
GB one. Reason I chose the smallest capacity was because I didn't think I'd need to store many
files. Further, it has an SD card slot. So I got myself a 4 GB SD card and that gave me 6 GB of
space.

Now, what are its capabilities? It plays mp3, wma,wav and aac. It also has the
capability to play videos in the following formats; MPEG, WMV9, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD. Mind you, you
still need to convert the videos to the size of 320 x 240. They have a converter software along with
the application that comes with the Media player. But the converter as I experienced, only converts
all the videos to wmv. I used a software called Any Video Converter to convert my video files. Get
the free version.

It stores photos in JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF formats. It has a voice
recorder which I find the quality quite good, because it kind of diminishes the background noises.
It also comes with an FM radio. Which I think a good thing.

The
downside of the media player is that, when you use the SD card, it is not fully intergrated to the
media player. Which means, they don't play automatically like the music or movies you store in the
flash memory. For me, it is still okay. I store my music on the flash memory and only my movies in
the SD card.

Another con is, also related to the SD card, whenever I try to do a
forward or rewind of movies from the SD card, it gets jammed up sometimes. Freezes. The solution to
this is, reset it. You need a pin with you at all times. People complain about this. But what I do
is, I wrap a pin in paper and just keep it in the leather case which I bought with the player. />
Overall, I would say, I really love the player and worth the money I paid for it. If it
were not for the drawbacks, I would have given it 5 stars.

Summary: Love it
Comment: This is a great sized machine with loads of options. Really love it. Can download programmes from
BBC i-player on to it. Bought the clear plastic case which makes it a bit bigger, but protects the
screen.

Summary: Nearly perfect
Comment: I bought this after seeing other reviews and have not been disappointed. It is brilliant and so easy
to use. I had a number of films I wanted to watch and my previous MP3 player had no facility so
opted for the Zen 4GB. I have found the transfer of music a doddle and display is excellent for
covers.
The films are transferred via the Creative software and are great - my only criticism
is the transfer time. It takes as ong as the film! So as long as you are not in a hurry its as
perfect as you are going to get. It also makes it easy to store since they can be put onto the
removable SD card and added/taken off even without the Zen attached.

All in all
probably the most adaptable , best value for money MP3 I have had - even if it was cheaper on a
certain auction site !!

Summary: White Screen of Death
Comment: I recently decided to upgrade from my old Vision:M and since this player has effectively replaced
the Vision:M, it seemed like a sensible purchase.

First impressions of the player were
good. It's really small which is a massive improvement on the Vision:M. Also, despite its size, it
feels reasonably sturdy and doesn't scratch easily. The interface is intuitive (as always with
creative) and the navigation buttons are fine. Sound quality is excellent (again, as always with
creative) and the screen has amazing clarity and depth of colour, something the iPod will never be
able to compete with. Also, the radio and recording features work surprisingly well. Radio is
usually clear (depending on location) and voice recordings are of high quality considering the size
of the microphone.

One of the other reasons I decided to stick with Creative is the
excellent range of playable formats in both video and music. This is still very good with the Zen,
especially now that AAC playback has been added. One thing that annoyed me was that video
resolution can't be higher than 320x240. That is a major problem for me since I'd have to convert
all my videos before putting them on the player. Also, there is no facility to output the picture
to TV which I did a lot with the Vision:M's AV cable.

Now onto the reason I've given it
2 stars... the white screen of death. This is a commonly experienced problem amongst Zen owners,
however I failed to find out about it before buying the player. For me, the WSOD appeared after
unlocking it. It was easy to get rid of, by simply locking the player and unlocking it again.
However, when you're paying £150 for an mp3 player, you expect it to be free of bugs, especially
ones as big as that. Others have had constant occurrences of the WSOD and it hard to know how badly
your Zen will be affected. I find this unacceptable and as result have sent my Zen straight back
for a refund. I hate to say it but I may have to get an iPod now.

In conclusion, it
has potential to be a good player, although no real improvement on the Vision:M. However, I think
Creative have bodged the Zen and released before it is ready. I also doubt that they will make much
effort to fix the problems and therefore have ruined their chances of being Apple's competitor.
It's a shame, but I wouldn't recommend buying this. Poor show Creative.
