Editorial Reviews:

1 Giant Leap has created a unique music, TV and film project. Featuring an incredibly diverse collection of collaborators from Noam Chomsky to Will Young, Maxi Jazz to Tim Robbins, Billy Connolly to Michael Stipe. What About Me? is the culmination of 4 years' work by Duncan Bridgeman and Jamie Catto. They visited 50 global locations collecting wisdom and musical jewels. Then they lovingly pieced them together into the TV and film mosaic that is What About Me?. It's an inspiring and alarming look at our collective insanity: how we are ego-driven, needy in relationships, insatiable in desire, addicted to status, wounded by childhood and unable to stop thinking, but how we still manage to be inspired and creative...

While Duncan and Jamie sought out wisdom from the likes of Noam Chomsky, Eckhart Tolle and Stephen Fry and the cream of the worlds thinkers, writers, and entertainers they also met many people just getting on with their lives - gravediggers, taxi drivers, brain surgeons, street kids... Unscripted, with no storyboard, these conversations all reveal how we are connected not only through our creativity and our beliefs but most of all through our madness!

Starting with pre-composed backing tracks in a laptop studio, the music grows as each layer is added, seamlessly mixing international stars like Alanis Morissette, KD Lang and Michael Franti with Bedouin Musicians, Chinese rappers, Gabonese Pygmies, Tuvan throat singers, Egyptian folk musicians, Japanese taiko drummers, and also the royalty of today's world music scene including Baaba Maal, Lila Downs, Rokia Traore, Oumou Sangare, Zap Mama.

Summary: A little bit superficial
Comment: Before I ordered the movie, I was quite curious about it from reading reviews. But after watching it I got a little bit disappointed. In my opinion, it is not very well presented and only scratches the surface of spirituality (if this is the point of the movie). It is kind of ironic that in the movie they mention that we are constantly bombarded by images from the media but the film itself is a bombardment of images, interviews and sounds from all over the world, taken out of context and juxtaposed to each other.

The concept of traveling around the world and doing accidental interviews with well known people and recording interesting musicians seemed intriguing. But I'm afraid that the end result is not very astonishing, may be because there wasn't a clear vision of the project. Some of the interviews were certainly interesting but as a whole the movie wasn't very enlightening to me.

Summary: A BEAUTIFUL WAKE UP CALL.
Comment: One Giant Leap's first film was excellent. I cannot come up with a superlative good enough for 'What About Me'....but I will try. There is something about this wonderful film that awakens a very positive spirit in the viewer....like, let's run out into the street and start dancing kind of thing. I saw the band in Amsterdam's Milky Way Club a few years back and was struck by their extremely positive energy there also. The film is beautifully and meticulously crafted and a pure joy to behold. The musical soundtrack is a mindblowing blend of some of the best music from the world music scene. While listening to it I was at times moved to tears by the musicians dynamic and heartfelt performances. The interviews were inspiring and thought provoking and too many to comment on in full. I was never a great fan of Sir Bob Geldorf, but I take my hat of to the man now after hearing his sincere and frank comments during the film. Bhagwan Das was superb, a spiritual teacher with a unique and straight to the heart message to deliver. Eckhart Tolle was simply marvelous, his concise and expressive way of capturing the human condition and delivering great truths in uncomplicated language is incomparable. The visuals from ethnic cultures were poignant, colourful and emotive. Urban scenes in your face, real and disturbing, yet somehow presenting a vision of hope. In the end though, it was the musicians who stole the show, speaking their universal language that can unite the myriad of cultures that exist on our planet today. If you feel that you are an intelligent person who loves soulful music and are interested in a magnificent stream of consciousness movieMind Bomb, look no further. One world, one love. Lets wake up and make this world a better place for our children to live, dance and play in.

Summary: Inspirational - Again
Comment: Truly quite unique (apart from the first one of course) and dare I say even better. I watched the TV series on Channel 4 and was so pleased to find the series on the DVD too as well as a 2 hour movie about a dozen short films and extras too.

I still sometimes go and watch the trailers at the whataboutme.tv website during the day to give me a spark

Such a fantastic line up too, Lila Downs, KD Lang, Will Young, Carlos Santana, Stewart Copeland, Baba Maal, Zap Mama.. .and those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head .... I mean really and that also doesn't even touch on all the philosophies of people like Stephen Fry, Susan Sarendon and Ekhart Tolle.

I can't wait for the album and was thrilled when I found some tracks on Myspace and Facebook

Summary: It's all going to be fine
Comment: Well done all involved a true service to humanity. This film makes you realize that everything is going to be fine. It should be on the national syllabus, it should be played constantly on one of the masses of digital channels that we now have, it should be subtitled and translated to every language on the planet.
