Summary: A Front Row Seat
Comment: This is a pretty good live DVD. The director (Richard Ayoade - star of The IT Crowd) has clearly tried to create a concert film rather than just a live recording. Almost the whole of the show is shot in close up and mid shot. This is great in some ways as you get to see the performance in real detail, the blood sweat and tears of Matt Helders on drums and the cheeky facial expressions of Alex Turner. I think some longer shots, crowd shots for example would have given the film more atmosphere, it almost feels like they are performing to an empty room. Plus it would have been great to see more of the lighting effects for example which are normally pretty good at Arctic Monkeys gigs. There are little tricks such as split screen used and this also follows through into the extras where you can see different angles and focus points.
All the best songs are there, except Mardy Bum (which I get the feeling the band may now exclude due to it's mainstream popularity) and they are all played brilliantly. This is despite the fact Alex Turner is completely wasted throughout, which is a little annoying. There's also a guest spot from Turner's Last Shadow Puppets band mate Miles Kane.
If you are a fan, you will know they don't release much official merchandise, so this is one to cherish. It's kind of a low key affair though so don't expect a rip-roaring party spectacular.

Summary: front row seats
Comment: If you've never had the opportunity to be in the front row at an Arctic Monkeys gig then this is what you are missing. i've been near the front at a number of their early gigs (spitting distance from the bassist) and this video took me right back to that moment immediately. it's almost like being one of the band members - the cameras must have been right on the stage with them. it's intense. they're not the most talkative band (i kind of like between-song-banter) but that is a mere quibble. the energy from this video is intense. i have surround sound and cranked it up, turned out all the lights, sat back and enjoyed the show. It is so great to have a real CONCERT vid rather than all the back and forth to the crowd to remind you that you should be enjoying it (which i always thought was basically like laugh tracks on sitcoms). This way, it stands on its own two feet and it stands proud. Man! I'm gonna go watch it again now.

Summary: amazing!
Comment: that says it all - a great set, brilliantly filmed and totally different from the run of the mill concert film that cuts every two seconds. It's made with real artistry and respect for the audience. The Arctic Monkeys never take the path of least resistance and they and the director have made something here that will hold up for a long long time. Couldn't recommend it enough - don't know what the last reviewer's talking about!

Summary: Try and borrow it first?
Comment: Im a HUGE arctic monkeys fan. Recently bought this dvd with great excitement as ive not seen them live! I must say its disappointing! They look so bored!! I'd be so annoyed if i went to see them play a set like that. Fairplay the crowd arnt too responsive but thats not really the point. Theres probably people in there who have waited a long time to see the band and really do love them. Playing like that shows such a lack of respect.

I pretty amazed this was made into a dvd. The levels seem to be pretty messed up too. I imagine it sounded better if you were there but theres little energy on the dvd. I really dont like to moan about a band as good as this but i feel i have to. Try n borrow the dvd first before you buy it. See if you agree.

Summary: Good but not great
Comment: The DVD is a good one, don't get me wrong i love watching/listening to the monkeys as the next guy but somehow i feel that the DVD has sucked all the energy out of the performance.
Firstly it shot using a lot of slow movements, e.g. a slow zooming in of the drummer. And secondly you can barely hear the audience at all. Together this means there is no feeling of rock or energy at all. It seems more like their '....Good On The Dancefloor' video, but at times that seems more exciting than this.

If your a Monkey's fan, buy it! If not, try renting it first.
