WARNING - Strobe Lights on DVDs
Comment:
I can only echoe the glowing reviews of this title but a note of caution. The small lettering on the package reveals that the DVD content features strobe lighting effects. Such effects can adversely affect those with certain neurological conditions.

Wots ..... Uh The Deal
Comment:
A sumptuous box 5 discs which covers pretty much the best of the 2006 tour and forming a pretty good tribute to the late Richard Wright. The main feature discs one and two are CDS of the Gdansk concert with the Baltic Philharmonic concert orchestra. Disc one made up mainly of the `On an island album`, disc two David Gilmours greatest hits with probably the definitive live version of Echo's the seminal Pink Floyd classic. Disc three is the fist of two DVD's this is highlights of the Gdansk concert and a rather good documentary the concert highlights stretch to 100 minutes or so. The band was having a lot of fun it would appear. This disc also allows you access to a special download where you can download further tour highlights so far it would appear that these are the songs which appear on disc 5 of this set plus `Wots ..... Uh The Deal`.
Disc four is a further highlights package from the various TV shows that were done while on tour to support the `On an Island' album shows like the Mermaid show recorded for BBC radio 2 and BBC interactive, AOL sessions ,and Live from Abbey Road. Also included are three `Barn jams', one of which highlights why David Gilmour is a better Guitarist than drummer during an Instrument swap. Lastly on this disc is a very good Surround Mix of the `On an Island' album, the 5.1 mix is one of the better surround mixes, the only shame is that its not a full DVDA but only DTS, I suspect this is down to record company politics.
Disc five is a tour highlights disc picking highlight from all across Europe.
The five disc set also contains a number of tour reproduction items Gdansk tickets guitar picks post cards stickers etc.. and an enhanced booklet.
There are other versions of this album depending on your budget but the 5 disc version comes highly recommended.
Its ironic that `Wots ..... Uh The Deal' one of the best songs from the touronly only appears over the end credits of the DVD

Unsettlingly Good
Comment:
When this item arrived I had no idea it was actually a "box" set. I was expecting a nice looking fold out card thing with the discs nicely set out. But no. I was astonished when I saw how much work had been put into this whole package. The large booklet riddled with great pics, the double sided poster, replica concert ticket, replica of Dave's stage pass, cool sticker, postcard, plectrum, photos, and that's before you get to the 5 seperately sleeved discs.
I've only got as far as half way through audio tracks (listening to it right now actually), but i can tell you it's enough to send shivers down your spine. Just the introduction, the heartbeats of 'Speak To Me' kinda gives you a chill, as you wait for the crescendo into 'Breathe'. Dave's solo stuff performed with great feeling, better than the studio album. The orchestra adds that extra layer to the atmosphere that makes listenening all the more pleasurable. David is on top form as always and Rick Wright's (rest in peace) playing, and a combination of the two sounds just beautiful.
Anyway, I haven't heard or watched the whole thing yet, but I already know I've got much more than my money's worth. If all I've heard was all there is, I'd be grateful.
If you're a Pink Floyd/Gilmour fan then go buy this box set. You need to see it and you definitely need to hear it.

It's a fantastic release. Great concert (perfect sound), some amazing extras (Gilmour's guitar pick, photographs, 24 pag. booklet etc). Imprescindible.

Classic Gilmour
Comment:
An absolutly fantastic concert incredibly well produced and performed by gilmour and co. The orchestra really adds something great to this. The extra cd you get is also excellent with 12 awsome tracks from the tour. The documentry is a little dissapointing, but the other sessions, the 5.1 on an island and assorted extras more then make up for it. Well worth the money!
