Editorial Reviews: The 80s yielded few more memorable comic characters than Derek "Del Boy" Trotter, the obstinately proud salesman of goods of dodgy quality and even dodgier legality. Humiliating his dopey brother, whining grandfather and leech-like uncle, he insisted that "this time next year we'll be millionaires". What made Only Fools and Horses so appealing was the very real affection that writer John Sullivan felt for all these characters and, with stories that were often as moving as they were hilarious, the show was both a celebration and critique of Thatcherite Britain.

Much of the first five series is on video, but for those who feel embarrassed travelling with a TV and video recorder on their lap, their scripts now exist in this more portable volume. Without visuals and vocals, they may not make many converts, but highlights abound, such as Rodney's date with a policewoman and a slasher movie send-up, and the book ends with the moving episode where Del Boy turns down a job in Australia.

Mildly let down by a rather meagre two-page Trotter to English dictionary, this is nevertheless a treat. "Pas de calais" as Del would say. --Stephen Portlock

Summary: Brilliant as ever
Comment: A good value double CD this, full of the usual early team, with the wonderful Grandad. As usual Sullivan's writing takes you from poignant moments to comedy classic lines in seconds. All episodes on here are great but 'The Yellow peril' is my favourite, where Rodney and Grandad end up painting the kitchen of a Chinese restuarant in a surprising colour which is nothing when compared to what Del did with the paint! 'Losing Streak' keeps you on the edge of your seat with the poker game of the decade, and Rodney in one episode dates a policewoman bringing the name of the Trotters into disrepute (!) and in another is dating a much older woman when Del shows real brotherly love, even though it's not appreciated. A good comedy CD this.

Summary: A total classic
Comment: A great double CD this from early in the series. My only gripe is that the episodes are not in the order that the CD says they are in. That said, John Sullivan is a superb writer who can really take you from utter sadness to moments of wonderful comedy as we have come to know and love from Fools and Horses. Rodney becomes the Peckham Pouncer in 'Wanted,' Del Boy gets taken in by antique dealer Miranda Davenport but gets his revenge in 'Yesterday Never Comes' and you're left thinking that Del is really going to become a grass in 'May the Force be with you' but Jim Broadbent really takes the emotions on a roller coaster ride in 'Thicker than Water' playing Del and Rodneys father who turns up after eighteen years away. Supported by the usual greats, Trigger, Boycie, and the much missed Grandad, the Fools and Horses team are at their best.

Summary: Brilliant!
Comment: Four of the funniest episodes from an early series of Only Fools and Horses, starring David Jason (Del Boy), Nicholas Lyndhurst (Rodney) and Lennard Pearce (Grandad). These don't suffer from being transferred from TV to audio - they're just as funny, and it's possible to pick up more of the quick comments as there's nothing to look at. Grandad's contribution, sorely missed in later series is a treasure.

One of the true cornerstones of British comedy - a must own set.

Comment: Only Fools And Horses, the enduring comedy classic focused on the inept Del Boy and Rodney Trotter, is brought to book form with this third collection of classic scripts. Remember the moment where Del and friends accidently blow up a coach? Or the wonderful final episode, in which the Trotter brothers dreams came true when they finally became millionaires? Relive these moments and more in the third volume of "The Bible Of Peckham". As well as all of the feature length episodes between 1986 and 1996, there are also scripts for various special episodes, such as 1997's Comic Relief edition. Also included is a brilliant Nags Head quiz. This is a wonderful buy which will take you ages to finish reading. Lovely Jubbly!

Comment: Another brilliant book, containing superb scripts (Danger UXD, Little Problems, Stage Fright) the way it is presented is superb. Wonder what will be in volume 3?
