His work for "Mr Holland's Opus" is truly inspiring and it also clearly struck a chord with Michael, as he went on to put a lot of effort into starting the Mr Holland foundation which I believe was a US based charity.
It's primary aim was to provide underfunded schools with musical instruments etc. which they otherwise would not be able to afford. Those of us who have seen the film itself (well worth a look) will know only too well how this mirrors the story of the film in some respects.
Listening to this CD is a warming and emotional experience. I'm aware that some purist soundtrack fans were not happy with the presence of (gasp!) drums and even guitar sounds in the penultimate track "An American Symphony - 'Mr Holland's Opus'", but I think they missed the point (and certainly missed the film!) - do not therefore be put off by that. On the contrary, go straight to track 12, turn up the volume, think of the film - and be INSPIRED.
Thank-you for the music, Michael.-John
