Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Features Curtis Mayfield, Tone Loc, Def Jef, Eazy E & more Comment: I must admit, I bought this off amazon as it was cheaper to get than the Superfly 1990 single by Ice-T and Curtis Mayfield, however I have to say I'm very pleased with my purchase. Of course, this track is on it, very funky, reminiscent of Mayfield's best work & Ice-T's smooth flow really compliments this track. This CD is very different to the soundtrack for the original Superfly movie, mainly a hip-hop soundtrack with a few Mayfield tracks. Superfly 1990 is great, & For The Love Of You is a decent ballad. The other Mayfield tracks sound dated, though (Forbidden makes reference to the Lambada of all things!). Now to the hip-hop tracks... I already knew & loved Cheeba Cheeba by Tone Loc and Real Tip by Def Jef (the version here is longer than on his awesome "Just A Poet With Soul" album, which you must own). The real discovery here is Funky In The Joint by Mellow Man Ace, awesomely funky with some of the best bass you'll ever here. Also included: Eazy Street by Eazy E, who continues being offensive and somehow endearing in equal measures; and very decent tracks by King Tee, CPO and Uzi Bros. So if you enjoy late 80s/early 90s L.A. Hip-hop & Curtis Mayfield, this would be worthwhile. More Reviews
