Editorial Reviews: This standalone TV movie told a sub-Quatermass & the Pit story in suitable spooky fashion. A mysterious artefact is discovered and it does inexplicable things to the crew. That's the easy-as-pie plot. Creator Straczynski took an especially prominent role in the spotting of the music with series composer Christopher Franke. He came right out and insisted on the use of a theremin to convey what is utterly alien about "The Bizarre Object". The electronic instrument is incorporated very subtly. Instead of anything kitsch or over-the-top, it provides a flexible mystery motif that often sounds like solo female voice. Franke expands upon the series' sound (presumably with a larger budget), and has "straight" vocal samples flow in and out as well. There are longer cues of harp and piano stretching out the show's Minbari material but very little of his crashing space battle style. At a generous hour long, the score is therefore closer to some of his solo ambient releases. --Paul Tonks

Summary: Blast from the past...
Comment: Thirdspace is the soundtrack which accompanies the tv-movie of the same name. Another wonderful score from Christopher Franke picking up themes and element from the music of the forth and fifth season of Babylon 5, and so has more emphesis on melodeys (as apposed to the more purcussive emphesis during the first season). At JMS's request Franke included a Therimin which provides that chilling sound so remanisant of 50's horror and Sci-fi films.

While not as emotional as his score for 'In the Beginning', Thirdspace does have a touch of the dramatic and is certainly somthing to be enjoyed. It is definataly worth adding to your collection.
