Editorial Reviews: An updated read on William Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew, Gil Junger's 10 Things I Hate About You is a teen comedy about two sisters on opposite ends of the social spectrum: one is pretty and popular, the older sister is bitter and vengeful. Family rules dictate that the younger sibling can't date until the older one has. You see where this is going. The soundtrack features Letters to Cleo in a 1970s mood covering Cheap Trick's "I Want You to Want Me" and Nick Lowe's "Cruel to Be Kind". Sweden's Cardigans include a rare B-side, "War". George Clinton's "Atomic Dog". Joan Armatrading's "The Weakness in Me". and Madness's "Wings of a Dove" still sound fresh. The only real misstep is Sister Hazel's "Your Winter". which sounds like a Seven Mary Three parody, full of breast-beating sincerity and lyrics that defy the laws of coherence. --Rob O'Connor
Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: 10 things i hate about you Comment: I recently bought the soundtrack for 10 things i hate about you after getting hooked on listening to 'i want you to want you'. What can i say..this is a great album! There are a lot of great songs on here (my favourites being i want you to want me, cruel to be kind, your winter and even angels fall). There are a couple of stinkers, but what can you expect? Overall, this is a great soundtrack and well worth the money if only for the great tracks by letters to cleo. Go on, just buy it..you won't regret it. Customer Rating: Summary: Acceptable but not perfect Comment: This was a good soundtrack but it missed out the most important song (in my opinion) of the whole film - 'Bad Reputation' by Joan Jett & The Blackhearts. This is where Kat is first introduced and in my opinion is the best song of the lot! Still, this album was acceptable although there is definitely room for improvement Customer Rating: Summary: Cool, sassy and Totally rocking Comment: Well, I loved the film, 10 things i hate about you, so when i saw this soundtrack i knew i had to have it. The First song, A cover of Cheap tricks' I want you to want me,Is catchy with a girl rock sort of vibe. There is also another Letters to Cleo song on the album-Cruel to be kind, Which is also another catchy number that will stick in your head. I think generally, for those of us who have seen the film, the music is reminiscant of Katarina stratford. My favourite song by far on the album has to be FNT by semisonic ( other song- Secret Smile) Which is definately one not to miss. There is also a good track by save ferris which includes a more band feel with trumpets, which may sound awfull but adds a different flavour to the album. for any one who loved the films music and loved the film i would definately reccommend this soundtrack becusae it gives you everything you would expect. The only thing i would say was missing was Bad Reputation by Thin Lizzy Customer Rating: Summary: Fun but could be better Comment: The album does contain two excellant tracks by Letters To Cleo but also misses vital tracks such as 'Calypso' by Spiderbait and 'Bad Reputation' by Thin Lizzy. 'Even Angels Fall' is a slow relaxed tune to listen to and 'Wings of a Dove' is a classic. A good album worth having if you don't mind the dissapointment of the best two tracks in the film being missing. I only bought the album 2 hear ltc but i expected a few more good songs but dissapoitingly there were no more, the prob is you can only get cruel 2 be kind on this, cd u cant buy the single which is a shame.If u like LTC then this cd is a must have but they will probably be the only songs u will actually listen 2 lol!!
