It is wounderful sat their listening 2 yr ground force CD with a cup off tea, visualising the team working hard as ahem, normal, while u relax....... And the more you learn about the Black Dyke Band and its extensive history, the force fascinating the band and its music become. It's as if you can close your eyes, listen to the brassy precision of this band and "see" England, Scotland, Wales. Wonderful stuff. Customer Rating: Summary: Wonderful stuff from the UK......... Comment: Being a Yank, we've just gotten the thrill of watching Alan, Charlie, and Tommy on Ground Force in the past year or so. I really enjoy this program shown here on BBCAmerica, so I checked out the BBC site itself to learn more. How surprised I was to see that the wonderful music by Jim Parker we hear on the show had been expanded and released on this CD. This is great stuff - I cannot pick a favorite. Additionally, living in the US, Americans tend to think we're the best at everything, so naturally, I'd never heard of the Black Dyke Band until I encountered GF. I'm used to performances by the Cleveland Wind Ensemble under Dr. Frederick Fennell and the like, and let me tell you, Black Dyke is every bit equal or better than these local folks - Parker's music IS NOT easy to play, and here the BDB seems to perform it effortlessly... Customer Rating: Summary: Fantastic. Excellent. Brilliant. Comment: I have never come accross a brass band cd in the past that I have liked every track from, until now. It goes without saying that The Black Dyke Band are one of, if not THE best brass band in the world, so I think it only fair to say that the majority of the credit should go to Jim Parker, for his superb ability to compose music. I do however think that very few brass bands could ever do this music justice. Black Dyke have really made this music come alive (as if there is any other way!!). The playing is faultless, and at times my jaw hit the floor in awe at the sound produced by the band. Track 6 (Charlies Water Music)is absolutely stunning (so are numbers 8,12 and 13!!). It would be impossible to pick a favourite from this cd and would be even more difficult to pick track that I didn't like. I would recommend this cd to anybody. More Reviews
