Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Marvellous combination of songs from a new BBC series -enjoy Comment: A great drama series from the BBC has spawned a moving compilation of songs, leitmotif to the principal characters and their dramatic environment - a script based on the 7 deadly sins, background being the somewhat unlikely character of an ex-con trying to go straight and becoming an undertaker. Sounds implausible but it works as a drama of which the music is an integral part. This sumptuous sound can be enjoyed on its own, from the opening track "What is a Man" by the enigmatic Tindersticks, through songs by Shirley Bassey and Dean Martin coupled with "A town called Malice" by the Jam - a combination I would suggest not seen on CD before. The final "Spinning" by Zero 7 with vocals by Sophie barker is miniature masterpiece with a haunting offbeat vocal on a cool keyboard backing - very cool - a very fitting resolution the the albums theme. We're sure to hear more from these artists. Listen in the dark, home late at night or driving along a deserted motorway for the full experience. More Reviews
