Summary: Beautiful Bond Soundtrack!
Comment: This is one of my favourite Bond soundtracks beginning with one of the classic opening title themes, performed by Nancy Sinatra.

John Barry's score mixes a blend of classical and oriental musical instruments as a perfect accompaniment to the Japanese landscapes and locations in the film.

This soundtrack is perfect for unwinding after a busy day. Definitely recommended.

Summary: One of Barry's Best for Bond
Comment: With his scores for the early Bond films, John Barry developed the quintessential action/spy movie music that has never been beaten. 1967's 'You Only Live Twice' is the middle of Barry's three finest scores for the Bond series (inbetween 'Thunderball' and 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service', all of them coming in a period in Barry's career when he could do no wrong regardless of which genre of film he tried his hand at), and it is certainly the most lush. The track 'Mountains and Sunsets' which is an instrumental version of the main title song is one of the most beautiful themes written for any movie, and the song itself is one of the best of the Bond series thanks to its thought-provoking lyrics by Leslie Bricusse. Not only this, but both the action and suspense cues within the score are fantastic as well; the simplicity of his themes allows Barry to play around with them, ensuring that things never become repetative yet still achieve a cohesive whole.

Due to the time constraints of LP's, only 40 minutes or so of the score has been available up until now. However with this re-issue, part of a re-realease of all of the Bond scores, we get a very large amount of the rest of Barry's score, which may not present anything amazingly new but does provide more of this great music. Added to this is the fact that the entire score has been digitally remastered, the benefit of which can really be felt when listening to it the first time after coming from the original CD release: the sound is so good that for a moment you are not sure if its the same soundtrack or not. This would be reason enough alone to buy this CD but with all of this extra material and it all coming in a smart package, this score is a must for any soundtrack fan's collection.
