Here, I must confess I was never into punk music, I'm really an old rocker at heart. But the songs on this album are amazing. I hear shades of Marianne Faithfull, I hear sounds remeniscent of Joan Armatrading. But most of all I hear that delightful voice and the very catchy tunes of Miss Hazel O'Connor. You must listen to this. Ten out of ten! And thank you, Hazel. Customer Rating: Summary: Buy it! Comment: The alleged "music fan" entirely misses the point. I don't actually believe that Hazel "breaks the natural metre of a spoken phrase when applying it to music" but this is irrelevant -she writes from the heart and the gut, with an instinctive passion that "music fan" clearly cannot comprehend. These songs are poignant and beautifully created and sung with a voice that tugs at the heartstrings. I defy anyone to listen to her work and not love her forever! If there was any justice in the world, Hazel would be a number 1 selling artist, but she refuses to sell her soul to the world of commercial music and I love her for it. Music fan - you continue to analyse your music to death - I will continue to enjoy music that has passion, soul and integrity and I know no finer exponent of that than Hazel O'Connor . Customer Rating: Summary: A great retrispective of a very talented artist Comment: Ok, so if you think you know Hazel O'connor from the records you have in your record shelves, it is still very much worth buying this CD as you are sure to find some new favorites, and if as one reviewer already said, for nothing more than "Cuts To Deep" As for the vapid review by "A Music Fan" I do not remember learning your rules to song construction in Music college and as such find your negative comment not only founded in complete lack of music education but rooted in the same notion's that said Picasso was wrong or that Jackson Pollock was a mad man, Time proved those critics wrong and nieve. You sir should listen to John coltranes Giant steps to prove your metric theories wrong. Transcribe the solo then tell me what you discover. Also these things of which you speak are done purposely and with judgment I come to this conclusion after having transcribed lots of Hazel O'connors songs (melodys and harmonies), they must fall very short of being bad song writing and in-fact become the opposite. Its taken a while to get here but it`s well worth it. Hazel is one of only a handfull of artists that I could listen to again and again. This collection has something for everyone, from ballads to pop and well worth it to hear her version of George Michaels` `One more try` If you`re a Hazel fan, you`ll already know why you want this album (if only for the rare `cuts too deep`) If not, you`ll want it to see what you`ve been missing all this time.
