Editorial Reviews: Put the saga of history's greatest overachiever--Macedonian emperor Alexander the Great had conquered 90% of the pre-Christian world before his death at 32--in the hands of Hollywood's favourite over-reacher, Oliver Stone, and the result is three-hours of epic blood 'n' bathos. The soundtrack by Greek synth-score pioneer Vangelis Papathanassiou may be bookended by heroic orchestral/choral pomp of suitable scale and melodic dignity, but they buttress a far more compelling cocktail of primitive martial rhythms ("Drums of Gaugamela") and ancient ethnic-folk conceits ("Roxanne's Dance"). Though his film scores have become increasingly rare since the twin breakthroughs of his Oscar-winning Chariots of Fire and the sci-fi masterpiece Bladerunner, his work here argues that Vangelis' restless curiosity and musical range have only blossomed in the ensuing decades. With the exception of the final, club-targeted bonus cut, gone are his once overt electronics, replaced by a more organic, post-modern sense of fusion that evinces itself seductively on cues like "One Morning at Pella" and "Eastern Path." Elsewhere, cuts like "Across the Mountains" and "Tender Memories" are powered by Vangelis' trademark graceful lyricism, a trait that helps set this score apart from sword 'n' sandal contemporaries like Gladiator and Troy. --Jerry McCulley

Summary: Not the best by Vangelis, but nice music.
Comment: A mediocre film and a great soundtrack. Vangelis shows here his usual skills to create a mixture of heroism and intimism, and the result works very well. Maybe it does not reach the heights of 1492 or Bladerunner, but it approaches them.

Summary: An amazing Soundtrack. doubly so at this price!
Comment: I may be biased, as I was a fan of the film, but then this is always the way. This varied and melodically rich soundtrack makes for a wonderful listen, often catching you off guard with its sweeping emotive orchestrations. A great soundtrack for the soundtrack buff, and at this price, you can't miss it.

Summary: Beautiful soundtrack!
Comment: For those that don't know, Vangelis created the wonderful music for the movie "Chariots Of Fire", and there's definitely that flare of recognizable style, sounds and moods with this soundtrack, and I personally think this IS his best work.

I thought the movie was very average, but the music was fantastic throughout, setting the emotion and scene where the film lacked that ability in acting and directing. I challenge you to listen to this and try to stop yourself swaying, or nodding in time with this music after only 2 tracks!!

This CD is inspiring, uplifting and perfect for starting your day. My favourite track has to be "Titans"; just really rousing and takes you back to the time of Alexander itself.
There are a variety of sounds to compliment Alexander's journey through different lands and cultures, and musically you feel you're taking a journey too. This has become one of my favourite soundtracks; right up there with Gladiator, King Arthur, and Lord Of the Rings.

Summary: What a sound
Comment: Well I read the reviews on the fact that this sound track was dissapointing due to it only being 30mins long... this is untrue as the first thing I did was to look at the back and lo and behold its 56:23 mins (thank you for your review... ccmedway from Devon)
Right on with the music.. its uplifting and very rousing, from the opening "introduction" and the "young alexander" to the sweeping final pieces of "Eternal alexander" and "tender memories" this soundtrack is for me something I will definite listen to when gladiator and lord of the rings have been played... if you like the last two scores I mentioned, this will also be for you!!
