Comment: As someone who often buys a soundtrack, it came as no real surprise that I wanted to own this one also after watching and loving the movie. However, there was something so different about the music contained on this album. The album comprises the score of the movie, some very dodgy electronica produced for the Zissou documentaries which you only hear snippets of in the film, are actually bop along, fantastic driving music. Also the amazing Bowie covers by Sue Jorge are worth buying the album for alone.

Jorge's adaptation of Life on Mars is a personal favourite, and just for good measure the actual Bowie work of genius is also included. This is all in all a fantastic album. It does help to have seen the movie to understand some of the relevance of the music, which suits so many occasions even being played at a dinner party/casino night I held with friends. It's a difficult album to describe, but well worth a listen, the genius of the music by Jorge giving it credibility and the electronica music score appealing to the child within you that used to make music with pan lids.

It's also incredibly infectious, many a friend now owns this album as a result of not being able to get a track out of their head. A fab album!

Summary: Great! but...
Comment: Don't get me wrong, I love the songs and got this simply because I had to have Ping Island/Lightning Strike Op :-) and of course the Seu Jorge interpretations of some classic David Bowie songs. This is where I felt let down, the Seu Jorge tracks have been recorded on the movie set, so the sound quality is a little bit lacking. Also, as pointed out in other reviews here, there seems to have been a dreadful ommision in not including Sigu Ros' Staralfur. AND, if that is not enough, the US CD has two extra tracks! Humph! I ordered the US CD from Amazon seller Caiman with no difficulties. I would have purchased from iTunes were it available.

Summary: Great stuff
Comment: Yet again director Wes Anderson has pulled together a brilliant and original soundtrack to go alongside previous soundtracks 'Rushmore' and 'The Royal Tenenbaums'.

This album is my personal favourite as it features many David Bowie tracks, a mix of original recordings and brand new covers by the Portuguese musician Seu Jorge (who has actually translated the tracks into Portuguese!).

The other tracks are great too, with the signature music composed by Mark Mothersbaugh (composer for both the other Anderson soundtracks) + some brilliant and unheard (for me anyway) old tunes.

Note that this version (U.S import) has an extra couple of tracks compared to the UK edition so buy this one instead.

Enjoy! :-)

Summary: Brilliant! Sigur Ross track is online too
Comment: One of the most beautiful songs in the film is in fact available for (quite legal) download from http://www.epitonic.com/artists/sigurros.html - thanks to one of the US Amazon reviewers.

Its a great film and the soundtrack helps to carry one away into Zissou's/Anderson's quirky nautical world. Shame about the two extra tracks on the US version not being included, its nice to have them there! The theme jingle that Murray has playing in his helmet is also slightly different methinks but wonderfully eclectic all the same.

"Heres to you" is also one of my favourites.
Great stuff! Complements the film beautifully.

Summary: Weird & wonderful just like the movie !
Comment: After seeing the movie and being such a huge fan of Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums, I bought the soundtrack expecting not to be dissapointed. And I wasn't....well almost. Seu Jorge's covers are great and some of the musical scores are as quirky as the movie, such as the excellent "Lightening Rescue Strike". However the reason I'm brutally hacking off 1 star is the lack of the Sigur Ros song "Staralfur". It is in the climactic point in the movie and befits a beautifully shot scene. The reason it is not there is beyond me and rather dissapointing....so buy the Sigur Ros album also (5 stars).
