Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: The greatest compilation cd set of Vikki Carr! Comment: This is simply the greatest and the best cd compilation of Vikki Carr! Throughout the whole CD set, we hear the widest range of this artist: from jazz ("Moanin'" by Jon Hendricks) to big band ("Time After Time") to the great American songbook ("I Only Have Eyes For You" with a deliciously clear voiced vocalise at the end) to current pop ("Is She Still In Love") to Latin ("Mas Que Nada" where Carr is clearly having fun) to Broadway ("Surrey With The Fringe On The Top") to country ("The Ways To Love a Man"). In addition to the sure fire hits, the listener gets to hear songs recorded in three languages (English, Spanish and Italian). The programming of the songs is flawless and, like Carr's LP's, flows and builds to the end. The CD booklet comes with a great introductory note by Vikki Carr as well as the greatest biography ever written for a CD booklet, this enscribed by Randy Cordova and Vito Cifaldi III. The remastering is superb and makes this one awesome compilation worthy of this great artist. After buying and listening to this CD, how can we ever forget the unforgettable Vikki Carr? Customer Rating: Summary: Vikki Carr Superstar Comment: This is a beautifully packaged collection of Vikki Carr's early material. Its one of the best collections of her early work I have ever seen including LP collections. The amazing thing about Vikki Carr is her ability to sing different types of music and imbue each song with exactly the right amount of emotion it needs to make it both uniquely hers and to interpret the lyrics to the maximum effect. This collection allows her to run the fall gauntlet of emotions there are classic tear jerker's show stoppers from the movies, classic ballads and up tempo up beat numbers each disk gives you 26 great value tracks so there is enough of every type of music showing Vikki Carr's amazing ability to defy classification. The liner notes and pictures are also great. This is a must for any Vikki Carr fan and a fantastic introduction to her work for anyone uninitiated. Vikki Carr is an international star and Grammy award-winning artist and yet I still can't help but think she's under appreciated. I am sure anyone buying this collection will not be disappointed. Comment: I haven't been this excited over a box set in many years, but EMI-UK outdid themselves with the help of Vikki Carr herself! Vikki picked out tracks that would take her fans over the edge. To hear Vikki singing songs never released reminds me at Christmas as each new song's a nice gift all wrapped and presented for us. I love every song and I like the way we have different languages of Vikki's hits. I never knew she sung Italian and EMI should have presented this to us years ago. Also we have Vikki singing He's A Rebel in Spanish from 1962, priceless! The artwork, liner notes from Randy Cordova and Vito Cifaldi, and the cover photo make this the VERY BEST EMI as ever offered. Customer Rating: Summary: It's the best compilation of Vikki Carr in the market! Comment: I hate compilations. I would rather listen to the original albums. Having said that, I must admit it is only in compilations like this one that I get 21 previously unreleased or non-album tracks. Indeed in this 3-disc compilation, there are 25 songs on CD for the first time. From the album "Anatomy Of Love" which remains unissued on CD in its entirety, there are 11 tracks. The one remaining track "I've Grown Accustomed To His Face" is found on EMI's cd THE MAGIC OF VIKKI CARR. From the album "Intimate Excitement" which remains unissued on CD in its entirety, six tracks are presented here. From the album VIKKI which remains unissued on CD in its entirety, only 4 tracks are here. Finally from the album "Don't Break My Pretty Balloon" which remains unissued on CD in its entirety, only 2 tracks are here. In my opinion, more tracks should have been chosen from the albums VIKKI & Don't Break My Pretty Balloon. The 6 tracks from "Color Her Great", the 6 tracks from "Discovery 1" and the 5 tracks from "Discovery 2" should be omitted as these 3 albums are already on CD in their entirety. Still this remains EMI's best Vikki Carr compilation. A few previous EMI compilations were redundant as they rehashed the same songs. An added bonus is the informative liner notes written by Vito Cifaldi, the president of her fan club and the inclusion of some rare pictures of young Vikki looking extremely cute! The legendary singer Vikki Carr had a hand in the song selection which may explain why we are getting so many rare tracks this time around. Thank you Vikki Carr & thank you EMI! More Reviews
