Comment: I seem to remember that this was recomended to me because I bought The best of Mountain (old 70's band), which was very good. The very good reviews led me to buy 'Black stone cherry'. But there doesn't seem to be anything impressive about it. It's very modern, sounds abit like Nickleback but not as good, more like Metalica. It certainly doesn't sound like (as all these reviews say) Led Zeppelin. Customer Rating: Summary: Remember when Rock was Rock? Comment: What a truly amazing record this is. Five 20 somethings from Kentucky have delivered a fantastic album bursting with Hard Rock sounds and Southern Rock influences, the end result is quite breathtaking. Opening rocker "Rain Wizard" sets the tone, (a song which lyrically tells a great story, by the way) followed by "Backwoods Gold," another superb Hard Rock song. It's on the final three tracks though where the album really starts to shine, these songs are musically perfect, they flow superbly and they sound brilliant. No real power ballads on here, perhaps this is the only thing missing, but those types of song are purely down to personal listener preference rather than a staple song of any hard rock band. Best Track "Rollin On" Customer Rating: Summary: Remember hard rock? Comment: I like classic/hard rock. Unfortunately in recent years the radio has been flooded with same-sounding indie. These guys are here to change that. This album is superb. The riffs are heavy the singing soulful and deep (think Scott Weiland - without the stupid dancing) and the lyrics are interesting. The songs that grabbed my initial attention were Crosstown Woman and the bluesy Tired of the Rain. The latter shows how musically varied this band can be as this song as well as album closer Rollin On feature an organ that really sets these songs apart with a unique but great sound. At under 50 minutes the album is not self indulgent and never bores (I can listen to this top to bottom without skipping a track) but offers enough to satisfy. Hard rock ain't dead, these guys are a reminder of that. Customer Rating: Summary: Southern Rock Rises Supreme Comment: One of the finest rock debut albums I've come across and thats going back to the debuts of Montrose and the like. Lonely Train stands out for me - incredible riff. The whole album doesn't have a weak track on it. Unique ball breaking rock with overtones of Skynyrd, Blackfoot and the likes but brought into the heavier arena. Love it. I you like southern rock with a heavier edge, go out and buy it you won't be disappointed. Customer Rating: Summary: Here Comes The Rain! Comment: Truly outstanding debut album from Black Stone Cherry, the most exciting band in rock at the moment. I've had the privilege of seeing them live a couple of times and they are the real deal! This album is grade a - from start to finish there really isn't a bad song, every one is top class. The energy is relentless and the playing exquisite, the South have a history of producing incredible music and these boys from Kentucky are the latest edition to that impeccable list. 'Rain Wizard' maybe the best album (and set) opener ever... but to pick it out as the highlight would overshadow the other 12 tracks! "Hey hey, My my, Rock 'N' Roll will never die"... It's been a long while since Ol' Neil sang those immortal words, but while bands like BSC (and Airbourne and The Answer, to name but a few) are still producing 'classic' rock of this calibre, he was certainly right.
