Back to Wicked (Idina Menzel)

Idina Menzel's great, but Kerry Ellis is better
Comment:
I went to see the West End performance of Wicked the other week, and that was what prompted me to
purchase this album.
There's no denying that Idina Menzel is electrifying in the role
of Elphaba. However, it was Kerry Ellis' stunning voice that made the show when I went to see it and
sadly Idina's vocals weren't quite what I had expected having seen the show at the Apollo Victoria -
it wasn't a bad performance by any means, but I just prefer Kerry's vocal timbre.
/>Still, the soundtrack is amazing - the numbers from Wicked are unbelievably powerful, although I
would recommend to anyone who hasn't seen the musical yet to go first before buying the soundtrack.
You will be blown away.
Best songs? Defying Gravity (obviously), Dancing Through Life,
and As Long As You're Mine were my personal favourites, due to my musical taste for minor keys and
crisp keyboard accompaniments. However, all the numbers are well worth a listen.

WICKED!
Comment:
Wicked is the best musical you will ever see or hear. Idina Menzel's vocals are beyond words! (I
have been lucky enough to have seen her live at one of her last performances) And the score its self
soars! Kristin Chennoweth sends chills down your spine with her soprano and the chorus is the
strongest I have heard in a musical in a long time! The story is also incredible and very thought
provoking. "Defying Gravity" is a song in musical theatre that is right up there with "The Sound Of
Music" (but takes you even higher)as Idina Menzel's voice blows your mind! GO AND SEE THIS
MUSICAL!!! NOW! Even if you are not a theatre-goer this musical will make you go "WOW!"

Wicked is Exceptional!
Comment:
I visited London last September and saw all the posters up for Wicked without having a clue about
it. I saw the exerpts from it on Children in Need and the Royal Variety performance so I thought I
would buy the soundtrack (from Amazon 'cos it's a lot cheaper than anywhere else!) and put it in the
car cd. I don't think I've played any other cd in my car since. I absolutely love it - my youngest
son loves it and sings along, even reaching the high notes! My husband, who usually 'ain't
bovvered' loves it - my brother loves it... you get the picture. We had the opportunity to see it
in September but because I didn't know anything about it we chose to go and see Phantom of the Opera
for the 5th time. Silly mistake! Phantom isn't the show it once was and Wicked looks fantastic. I
shan't make the same mistake again. We're hoping to see it in June but to keep me going until then
I have just purchased the books 'Wicked the Grimmerie' and 'Wicked' the novel!

Wickedly Amazing
Comment:
This CD I required by sure luck. I was going through the musicals on Amazon and saw it. The cover
and synopsis intrigued me so I bought it. I am so glad I did. From the moment it hit my CD player I
loved it. I am a big fan of quirky musicals and this just totally tickled everything that was
quirky. I listened to the CD once and then went on the Internet to book tickets for the show and I
bought the book.
The musical was fun and different. A real family show and the CD really
brings that out. You can grasp the story of the book just by listening to the wonderfully charming
music. The characters come alive in such a different way than they do in the wizard of Oz. Do not be
put off by the fact that it is another story based on the original book and film, it takes nothing
away from the magic of Dorothy and Toto, It is just another more magical side to the story.
Wonderful

Popular!
Comment:
I had heard a couple of tracks from Wicked, including "Popular", from a friend who had been lucky
enough to see this on Broadway a couple of years ago. However, when I listened to it all the way
through for the first time, I was very undecided. But believe me, after hearing it a couple of
times, you just cannot get these songs out of your head! I particularly like "The Wizard and I" and
"What is This Feeling". The songs from this show will definitely have you singing along.
I
have my tickets to see this show in a couple of months and I am so excited, I'm just worried about
singing along from the audience!!!!!
