Summary: Finally.....
Comment: It just seems incredible that Slade have had to wait this long for a Box Set when several lesser bands have had more than they actually deserve. Slade were the undoubted Kings of the 70s Charts, their singles and albums were pretty much unbeatable. I think if you listen to this set you will hear the story of a band that reached an unbelievable commercial high and then for some reason when they were making some of their best records the popularity started to decline. I bought this on the day of release and it sounds absolutely brilliant! The remastered tracks are all stunning and it just shows a band with two of the best songwriters ever to come out of the UK.

Summary: How Does It Feel?
Comment: How Does It Feel? Pretty damn good actually. Beautifully re-mastered, beautifully packaged. Despite their great success Slade were always underestimated. They were always far more than their string of hit singles, costumes and stage antics. Here is your opportunity to find out at a bargain price. A Slade greatest hits album just isn't enough to do the band justice... Cum on feel the noize!

Summary: At Long Last
Comment: Slade's single and album history has long been subject to a rough ride. The constant greatest hits packages (Feel the noize, Wall of hits, Greatest hits) have been released far too many times. Their album history has long mostly ignored. The albums were released on CD having been remastered (badly) by Slade's awsome bassist Jim Lea and that's it. Now at last someone with clout has done the decent thing. ALL Slade's Cd's are being released. Remastered by Tim Turan, and so far he has done superb jobs on Beginnings-Play It Loud-Slayed-Old, New, Borrowed and Blue and all the live albums (Alive, Alive 2,Slade On Stage and Reading 1980) have been put together to give us The Ultimate Slade Live Anthology. Many thanks to Union Square See my reviews elsewhere on Amazon. But now to The Slade Box.

It is hard to believe this package has took so long. Slade were the biggest British band in the 70's selling more records than Bowie, Marc Bolan and Elton John but they are never recognised as such. Forever lost in the Glam Rock of the early 70's with garbage like Showaddywaddy, The Rubettes and Alvin Stardust. No one mentions that Bowie, Bolan and Elton John were also part of this era. This box set puts them right were thay belong, at the forefront of good old rock and roll. Holder and Lea wrote some belters and should be remembered (and applauded) for this. This four track set contains some gems, rare b sides, album cuts and some of thier biggest hits. It has to include the Xmas record even if this record would forever overshadow some of their best work. Not all here is good, bad choices in the late seveties and early eighties included a version of the Okey Cokey and crummy football songs with the worst lyrics ever with Give Us A Goal. But 98% of this set is just awsome. Some of thier b sides were better or as good as the a sides. She Did It To Me, Not Tonight Josephine and Don't Tame A Hurricane are perfect examples.

The set includes a a 72 page booklet with some superb pictures (many unseen) and an introduction by Keith Altham (thier press agent) and a full discography. If you want to dip your toes in the Slade seas, this would be a great place to start and a damn sight better than another greatest hit package.

Look out for further Slade releases in 2007 including a B side two CD collection released in February. Keep on rockin!!!

Summary: AFTER YEARS OF WAITING AT LAST.
Comment: At last the long waited slade box set. 4 cd's 84 tracks, plus a great booklet full of imformation about the band and some great photo's. I first became a slade fan in 1972 when i first heard Tak' Me Bak' Ome, i was not into music then but after hearing that song i was hooked on music and slade. A lot of people think of slade as that glam rock band that sang that xmas song, but there was so much more to them than that. They were the biggest selling singles band in the country around the glam rock era, and with song,s like Mama Weer All Crazee Now and Cum On Feel The Noize you can see why. But slade was never just about noize. The ballad Everyday, Far Far Away and How Does It Feel are just great song,s and show just what great songwriters Holder and Lea were. Slade were also a great live band and it was due to that fact that they made there comeback in 1980 at the Reading festival. This box set includes a lot of their 80's output. The highlights for me being rock song's like We'll Bring The House Down and the great album track Rock And Roll Preacher. Also their biggest 80's hit My Oh My. If you want to hear more of slade apart from just the hit singles, this is a great place to start. 4 cd's at under £18, great value for money. And as the box says A 4 cd anthology 1969 - 1991. That,s a lot more than just a seventies glam rock band.

Summary: Essential Stuff
Comment: A great box-set at a fantastically low price price. The first two discs are totally classic and the last two contain some good songs mixed with lesser material. Good booklet too with lots of rare photos and information.

A must buy if you are thinking of getting the best of set released last xmas as all tracks on that bar one are presented here and the sound quality here is far superior due to the remastering.

So, buy, buy, buy and get down and get with it.
