The Legend Grows On...
Comment:
Ring of Fire Volume 1 was the perfect introduction to Johnny Cash for young listeners, featuring twenty one of his classics like Folsom Prison Blues and Hey Porter!, add that to a successful biopic Walk The Line, Johnny Cash only continues to grow in his status.
Its been nearly four years since his tragic death, and ultimately Volume 2 is a way of dividing between the true fanatic and the curious listener.
Not quite as accessible as the first set, Volume 2 features a few cuts from Sun records including the fantastic There You Go, his stint at Columbia with the haunting Don't Take Your Guns To Town and of course his last efforts with Rick Rubin including a cover of Tom Petty's brilliant I Won't Back Down.
If anything this shows even more of his songwriting talents - Home of the Blues, The Ways of A Woman In Love and The Long Black Veil are some of the most enduring songs available here.
No live cuts this time around but instead you're treated to some duets including a surreal song between Johnny Cash and one of his idols Bob Dylan and a very western That Old Wheel with Hank Williams Jr.
To say you were curious you only bought Volume 1, to say you are clearly interested you must buy Volume 2! That's it, if Elvis Presley was the pop sensation and heart throb of that era, then Johnny Cash was the dark horse, forever Walking The Line.
