Back to Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber Of Fleet Street

A Horror Musical...
Comment:
Gosh, did you watch another film than I did? Or maybe one has to listen to the soundtrack without
watching the film... ? The film was brilliant, agreed, great costumes, great actors, great setting.
But the music? Are you deaf? What is so great about Joanna and her yellow hair? For that seems to be
95% percent of the text. I would love to give a comment about the melody too, but unfortunately
there was none. The film was supposed to be a success, Depp, Rickman, Bonham Carter and all directed
by Tim Burton. And yes it is! ... as long as you turn it mute whenever the music begins to play...

If you saw the film and loved it... buy this soundtrack, from the opening title you are hooked,
this soundtrack hits you where it should. It has to be one of the very best music scores i have ever
heard, like the visual effects of Burtons masterpeice, Sondheim provides the sound, that to me has
got to be The film of 2008, this soundtrack will not disapoint, 'Epiphany' is fantastic and Johnny
Depp has a remarkable voice, this cd will take you back to a wondefull film and make you smile has
soon has you hear it.

Film of the Year?
Comment:
Now I don't want any complaints, this is purely my opinon; but I saw this film the other day and was
blown away. So I rushed out and bought this wonderful soundtrack, just listening to it allows you to
hear parts you may have missed in the cinema, and relive some of the dark humour. Stand out tracks
include "The Worst Pies in London" and "A Little Priest" but Stephen Sondheim deserves all of the
praise for this amazing soundtrack, which reminds you that songs can be as informative as any movie
script.

Comment:
Before I watched the film I bought the Broadway OST which was entertaining enough. The film
soundtrack, like the film, is altogether a superior, darker product. Depp and Bonham-Carter are both
sublime and disturbing while all of the supporting roles are perfectly cast and performed. I can't
wait for the DVD.

The Playout/End Credits???
Comment:
Fantastic rescoring of Sondheim's masterpiece - the Danny Elfman-esque opening alone hooks you in a
totally different way to the stage version... but why haven't they put the End Credits music on the
cd? Totally bizarre and a real shame for Sondheim fans. Otherwise this would be a six star
recording.
