Summary: DON'T BOTHER - this is pretty rubbish, and I LIKE Argento !!!
Comment: The long-awaited third part of the Suspiria/Inferno "trilogy"
This is HUGELY DISAPPOINTING. None of the invention, flair, or visually interesting qualities of the other two.Predictable and tired.
If you are an Argento fan there are many other of his films to buy before you need to even consider this one. An at best average horror film that just sadly confirms that Argento is well and truly off-the boil, as he was starting to show with his other recent offerings.
If you want more Argento you can spend your money better by getting hold of "Profondo Rosso" or some of his earlier stuff. Most of his films are interesting and worthwhile up until "Opera"(or "Terror At The Opera") in the late eighties with the possible exception of "Phenomena" (or "Creepers"). Even later stuff like "Sleepless", "Trauma" or "Stendthal Syndrome" are better than this, and they are not great by any means.

Summary: Baroque, deliciously over the top Argento!
Comment: The prestigious New York Times (among others) has given the new Argento film a great review... and with good reason. The Mother of Tears gives us a sure-footed, bolder Argento; taking us from one shocking moment to the next. While the narrative comes frightfully close to unravelling at times, this is a thrill ride that holds you to the end.

Don't listen to the rantings of geeks all over the web: bad acting, implausible plot-twists, bad acting and dubbing are things Argento has been accused of from the very start of his career. But he manages to make art.

While I've not liked his last few films, Mother of Tears has reminded me of why I love him as a director.

Summary: Long wait for very little!
Comment: Being an Argento fan since a very young age and having forgiven him for some turkeys along the way (Phantom of the Opera, Trauma) I was looking forward to a top entry to finish the longest awaited ending to a horror trilogy for a long time! All the classic trademark Argento touches are there from the first aerial camera shots and the superb lighting but the sum of the parts don't make up the whole. The murders are typically gruesome but a series of contrived set pieces that end up with a shocker of an ending is unforgiveable. I know Argento is traditionally known for naff endings, his ending for the otherwise superb Inferno is a class example but this one is devoid of any thought at all! A reasonably tidy build up is ruined as an all powerful witch is done in by Asia Argento casually tossing her red dress into a fire and that's pretty much it. No suspense, no menace, no horror, just a quick grab of a dress and that's the end of it - shocking! A ten year old could have done better! Asia Argento, an actress I have a lot of time for, overacts pretty badly in this one and, unless you're a die-hard Argentophile I fail to see how this might grab you. Anyone brought up on the crap horror films of the 90s and 00s will fail to see any of the subtler points of Argento's horror but it has also left the biggest of fans like me pretty cold. A disappointing end to a trilogy which includes, for any of its faults, two of the best horror films ever.

Summary: Crazy and confused - Pure Argento
Comment: I was expecting bad things of this movie. After all the anticipation and build-up, most reviews were very damning. This was actually a good thing as my expectations were lowered. And when finally watching it? Absolutely loved it! I have followed Argento for years and yet his recent output has left me disappointed. The Masters of Horror entries suggested something better. But this is a crazy, confused, gory fun ride! OK, it lacks the garish colour schemes of the Classic Suspiria and Inferno, but so what? It is as much a twisted fairy tale as any of them. The effects, the 80's witches and acting; all areas that have been criticised, actually made me smile. It has some decent gore effects, an effective Simonetti soundtrack and I can't see how Argento fans could dislike it. Surely to be an Argento fan means more than worshipping only Suspiria? He's made many films since then with all the usual faults. Bad acting is nothing new and now people suddenly expect something that Argento has never offered. Downsides- the ending is a let down. Build up and up...then finishes very flatly. I think with a little more money and time, this could have been corrected. Overall, if you want a serious, thought-provoking, realistic horror film, look elsewhere. But for bonkers, yet entertaining blast from the past, go see the Third Mother.

Summary: Truly Shocking....
Comment: This film is one of the worst films I have ever seen ! I have no idea who Argento is or why people seem to worship him but at the end of the day this film fails on all fronts.. It isn't scary, the so called "Gore" is so unrealistic it is at times laughable.. The acting is so wooden it defies belief.. Me and my wife thought the film was dubbed to begin with as the dialog was so bad. How anyone can give this film 5 stars is baffling. Please, take my advice, do not watch this film.. Without a doubt the worst film I have ever seen and I have seen some pretty shocking stuff recently !!
