Editorial Reviews: The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralysed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director/co-writer Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

Summary: Want the Wii Fit? Here's how to get it for a fiver
Comment: Christmas is coming so save your cash! Why purchase something you can get for a fiver.

Go to YourWiiFit.co.cc and sign up. Complete ONE offer - I would recommend Gala Bingo (you know, the one Sharon Osborne advertises for on tv),as this is cheap and fun (and you might win some money in the process!)

If you really don't want to spend, there is a free Lovefilm trial.

All companies are well known so there is no risk involved- give it a go! I got my Wii & Wii Fit and many other things this way, so don't miss out.

I was a sceptic once but now I am SO glad I gave it a chance. B8C approved this system on their Newsnight programme a while back.

Summary: Easily the best film of 2008
Comment: I have never seen a 'Batman' film in my life but I watched this one because a friend said it was good.
Oh, I'm soooo glad I went to see it. It was without doubt my favourite film of 2008.
Heath Ledger gave an awesome performance as The Joker, it's a shame he died so young. This is the best film he has starred in (either that or 'The Patriot').
Give this a watch, you won't be disappointed!

Summary: Massive disappointment.
Comment: Now, Don't get me wrong here, I'm a BIG Batman fan and fan of comic books in general.

I enjoyed Batman Begins but prefer the two Burton Batman flicks (Keaton is easily the best Bruce Wayne/Batman of anyone to play the part).

The Dark Knight, while being a technically well made film, it is for me just too far removed from the Batman I have been reading for decades to even be called a Batman film, the Joker especially.

This is not the Joker of the comics, this Joker has very little in common with that character. This is just some crazy guy in makeup, remove the makeup and you just have a crazy guy, could be anyone.

Bales 'gruff' Batman voice also get very annoying after a while, he even uses it in the company of characters who know who he is. If it's to help disguise is identity, why put the voice on when with characters who know his secret?? What's the point of that?

If I wanted to watch a 'serious' detective movie I'd have watched HEAT again, I wanted to watch a Batman movie, I'm still waiting.

If you want to watch a good, fun comic book movie, buy Iron Man.

Comment: Relative to Tim Burton's innovations which redefined the Bat, particularly in Batman Returns, this is sorely lacking in vision, meaning, coherence and beauty. Batman Begins showed quite a bit of promise for this re-reimagining but it's all squandered now. Too long, poor plot, not much left but hype.

Summary: Great movie - whats with the voice?
Comment: Great film, awesome performance by the Joker and 2 face. However, there are 2 reasons why i only gave this film 4 stars.

1. Batmans voice is ridiculous. Its the worse put on gravely voice in film and really grinds on me, esp the last scene with the joker.

2. Why oh why is that goon Caine, Alfred the butler. Cockney butler for one of the worlds richest tycoons - unlikely. I prefered Michael Gough, a classy English accent.
